Customs & Layover from Chicago to Athens, Greece
I am flying Lufthansa from Chicago to Athens, Greece in October. I have a layover in Dusseldorf for 5 hours. When I arrive to Athens, I then have another flight booked through Olympic airlines to fly me to Mykonos which I will have 2 hrs & 10 minutes to catch. Where will I be going through customs, in Dusseldorf or in Athens? If it is in Athens, is 2 hrs & 10 minutes enough time to clear customs and check into next flight? I have never been to Athens airport so I'm not sure how large or confusing it might be.
Any help would be appreciated!

Not sure about Lufthansa, but on United we flew from LA to Rome with a layover, change of planes in Frankfort and we had to go through security and passport control, but not customs, we did that in Rome.

Since both Germany and Greece are Schengen zone countries you will go through immigration and then security in Frankfurt, and customs upon arrival in Greece. Unless you have something to declare that customs will be nothing more than walking out of baggage claim area as you would for a US domestic flight.
If possible I would recommend you checkin for your Olympic flight online before you depart Chicago, then you'd just have to drop off your checked bags in Athens.
What airline are you flying each leg? You may be able to check your bags all the way through to Mykonos.

That's a good idea about checking in to Olympic flight before we leave Chicago. I will look into that. We will be transferring flights in Dusseldorf, not Frankfort so will we go through immigration and security there as well?
We are flying Lufthansa all the way to Greece. (Chicago-Dusseldorf & Dusseldorf-Athens) Then transferring to Olympic.

Yes, procedures in Dusseldorf will be the same as Frankfurt. Immigration then security.
If Lufthansa and Olympic have an interline baggage agreement (most major/legacy airlines do, they need not be alliance partners) then you may be able to check your bags through to Mykonos from Chicago, even if you haven't checked in yet on Olympic. Just give the LH agent in Chicago the Olympic info.

One question I don't think has been answered is the time in ATH. With over 2 hrs, you shouldn't have a problem going through customs and checking in with Olypmic. It's a small very manageable airport and the Olympic checkin is just outside the customs area - about a 5 min walk. Yes, this assumes your flight arrives on time. Our experiences with LH are that they are very punctual.
