Continental or Northwest to Asia?

If flying to Asia from the U.S., coach class, and the only choices
were Northwest or Continental, which would you choose? I'm inclined toward
Continental because I know their planes to Europe have seatback entertainment
systems, but didn't know if this was true to Asia also. Also, just from personal
experience, it seems like a lot of Northwest's planes are older than
Continental's (at least on domestic flights I've taken), but would like to hear
impressions from those who've flown either or both to Asia. Thanks.

If it were up to me, I would chose Continental for a number of reasons. First, there planes are newer and each seat does has its own TV. Second, the Continental flight attendants are much friendlier than Northwest's. And finally, the food on Northwest gets a "D-" in my book - choose Continental - ETHAN

Continental! We no longer fly Northwest because of being bumped every time we flew with them. One time while awaiting a connection in Memphis, the agent at the gate announced to the crowd anxiously awaiting the plane "okay now folks, we have more ticketed passengers than seats, so you better decide among yourselves who is getting on this plane"!!! Lucky a brawl did not follow. NEVER AGAIN!!!

My experience with Northwest was no leg room. That was the most uncomfortable flight I've ever taken. We felt like sardines. My choice would be Continental if that was the only other choice.

Definitely Continental.

If youre on a 777 to Tokyo, you'll get the seat back entertainment.

If youre connecting through Guam, you will probably get a DC-10 to, and a 737-8 out of Guam to your final destination.

Either way, Continental beats NWA.

-Tony

northwest sucks! completely!
members of the flight crew are over 50 and unfriendly, seats are thinner than a maxi pad, no leg room, flights are always completely packed (the seats next to you will be full), and even if you dont use the personal tv's on continental's flights, at least you could have it off and be saved from watching the shitty movies they play, and replay..

I flew Cont. from Newark to Rome last year, the 777 was brand new and nice and clean but the food was junk like a cold tv dinner, and the wine they served was Glen Ellen a jug wine. I always ask for 2 bottles when they serve on international flights and the flight attendand yelled out I can only give you one at a time real nasty. Happy travels, buck

Quick observation: if you have strong feelings about this, then be sure to check for codesharing on the particular flights you are interested in since Continental and Northwest have a rather tight alliance.

Well my suggestion would be Continental as well, NWA does fly much older jets and the service on the planes is not very good from the attendants, it is a long flight over, I try to avoid booking my clients on NWA

This is a no-brainer for me, a platinum elite Continental flyer who abhors Northwest airlines. CO is consistent and relilable, with a great emphasis on service quality. NWA can be relied on to consistently offer poor to downright nasty service, dirty planes, bad food... get the picture?
Do heed the previous caveat to check about code shares. CO is stuck with NWA for a bit longer because of prior agreements. CO employees, if honest, will tell you they are counting the days until they can be rid of them, beacuse it generates so man y complaints and problems.

I would try not to fly either as well. NW may have tiny seats, but Continental isn't extra roomy either. (actually the worst is United in economy where only a select few get "Economy Plus" which is the real thing)

If you've got NW as an alternative, I'd bet you're actually flying KLM to Europe. It's not the best of the European carriers, but work it so you book with NW but actually fly a KLM plane.

Is it true that NW and Continental will soon go their separate ways?

I live in Hong Kong and end up taking NW frequently to the states because most of my family lives in Iowa near the minnesota border, and it's really hard to get flights on any other airline that serves that area well at all.

Anyway, I find that NW's transpacific and domestic flights are hell on wings. The only place they're acceptable are on their intra-Asia flights, where the planes always seem to be newer, and the flight crews about 50 times more polite and helpful (i.e. they're predominantly Asian).

I was hoping to be able to take some cross-listed NW/Continental flights to the States now, since Continental have just started coming in and out of HK -- don't tell me I'm doomed to NW forever!!!!!
