connecting flight in Frankfurt how long a layover is necessary

Jump to last reply

I will be traveling in August from Salzburg to NYC, I have a choice of flights that connect in Frankfurt. Its Austrian Airlines from Salzburg and Lufthansa in Frankfurt.

The first flight has an 1 hour and 5 minutes between arrival and departure. I am not sure that this is enough time to make my flight to NY.. I have been through Frankfurt before and had to take the monorail to another terminal and go through security on the way to my flight..so I know that it can take time.

The second has 5 hours between arrival and departure. I know I will make the NY flight but what to do for 5 hours!!

Would it be better to be on the safe side and opt for the longer layover?
I will be checking one bag and will have a carryon...unavoidable with the restrictions on liquids as I need my contact lens solution and other items in my checked luggage.
