I normally fly BA or VS on this route but am tempted to try AA if they're still flying "more leg room" in coach. Are they? Do they individual TV screens?

Next quandry, BA's sale is supposedly over tomorrow (and if they raise prices, others are likely to follow suit I'd guess). My trip is late March-April 2004 & haven't finalized dates. Should I bite the bullet & buy now or are prices likely to stay low (about $320/ticket including tax) for that period. Best guess please.

We've flown AA from ORD to LHR on one of their 777s. I believe the seat is relatively wide for coach and the extra 2 inches of legroom did seem to make a difference on a long flight. Our plane also had individual, seat-back screens. I think it was as comfortable as you're likely to get in coach.

Prices usually go down right after New Years (about January 5) at about the same price as you're being offered today ($99 ea/way NY/LHR plus tax). Travel is usually thru March (some years thru April), but you've got to watch out for Spring Break time and/or Easter Holiday - prices will increase for these dates.

I believe AA is pushing the extra seats back into coach for domestic in Feb 2004, but the trans-atlantic and trans-pacific flights will still be more room throughout coach (at least for now).

They're very comfy on trans-atlantic and I'm not the most patient of flyers. I'm not small either, but I could cross my legs in coach and the selection variety on the individual TV was good. Airline food, however, is universally non-descript, isn't it?

I tried American this past some for the same reason--more legroom. Never again. The two extra inches were not worth the all around bad service. I felt like I was flying a discount airline. Terrible service on the ground and in the air. No amenities kit (like on Virgin). And, the food was inedible. I know Virgin is a bit more cramped but the whole flying experience is so much better that it is worth the discomfort, at least to me. Of course, this is just one person's opinion.

We just returned from a AA JFK LHR trip. We chose AA as the legroom was critically important to us (6 months pregnant!).

On the 777, there is more room (at least at inch or two) in the back cabin of economy. We were in front section on the outbound and were less than impressed (and less than comfortable - fortunately it was the day flight). On the return, we were the third row of the aft section and had a good deal of room. I usually have nothing positive to say about AA, but found the service to be decent, food edible, flights ontime and the planes uncrowded. The individual screens are also nice!

Sorry about the typo in my 9/25 post. That's what happens when I try to do something sans reading glasses. What I meant to say was: "I tried American this past summer for the same reason--more legroom. Never again..."

Thanks for all the responses (although there doesn't appear to be any consensus LOL!) Because our dates/itinerary are not firmly set, I decided not to buy any tickets right now. Will start checking again Dec/Jan & probably go with best deal.
