Columbus Ohio to New York cheapest flight?
DD and SIL asked me to research a flight from Columbus to New York 3rd December 2008, could possibly leave Tuesday 2nd Dec after 9pm, returning 4th Dec in the evening or early Friday 5th Dec.
I have looked at Kayak, and Orbitz and have found a Delta fare at $ 361.00, is this a reasonable price, can anyone see anything cheaper. One stop could be acceptable but preferably non-stop. Being from NZ I don't have a feel for what a cheap flight should be.
Thanks for your help.

Continental has 7 non-stop flights a day into Newark for $359 rt. American 3 a day into LGA for $361 - same as you found on Delta.
Looks like $360 is the going rate for a flight 2 mo out.
Looking at prices on AA for mid October to early November I see $240 round trip. Ditto for CO.
I'd say wait a month or so and you should be able to get a $240 fare. Between Delta, AA, and CO plenty of flights & competition. I book directly from the airline websites.
JetBlue does not fly to Colombus.

I suggest you go to the site for the Columbus Ohio airport. They have a page that lists all the airlines that use the airport, and you can then compare the offerings on the various airlines' sites.
You won't, in all probability, get the best price from the legacy airlines, as your stay will not include a weekend (they figure people who don't stay over a weekend are likely business travelers, and they can get more money from them).
Some airlines, notably Southwest, don't play that game, so usually they have the better fares, but they often fly into less popular airports. For New York I think they use the airport in Islip, which is commutable, and I think the train ride is over an hour, but I think with any airport by New York you will face a substantial commute to get into the city center, so bring money, and compare whole packages, including airfare (some quoted airfares don't include such things as taxes and fuel surcharges until you get to the last step in the booking process), commuting costs, and time spent, to see what best suits you.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but I haven't been to New York in many years.

Just a thought since I live in Columbus and fly to New York once or twice a year....we have found it to be the easiest and most cost-efficient as far as commuting into Manhattan once we get there to fly into LaGuardia (LGA). We usually fly Delta or UsAirways. JFK would probably be the next-most convenient as far as commuting into Manhattan upon arrival. Good luck and hope you find some good fares!

Do not use Islip unless you're staying on the island. It would be a pain to get to the city from there.
LaGuardia is the closest to Manhattan, but it can be a long taxi ride in rush hour. JFK and Newark are both served by the train. Haven't taken it from JFK, but it was pretty easy getting to and from Newark, which might be the most convenient option depending on where you're staying in the city.
