I am trying to get used to the Delta website - was a long time NWA customer. The one obvious issue that has come up is that NWA used to let you buy children's fares online. Delta apparently doesn't. I called to see if they could get me a better deal, and the guy was quoting me a fare of $1800, when I had the full adult fare of $1100 sitting in front of me on the computer. He said, well if you haven't bought it, you lost it, because it is gone now. Well, he was wrong. Didn't instill much confidence for Delta in me.
Any Delta customers who have gotten children's fares (kids over 2, but under 11 it is I think)?

Delta does not have child or infant discounted fares for domestic US travel. They do have discounted fares to some other countries but not all and the fare depends on the child's age. My guess is the rules are somewhat complex so you need to call.
Thanks for the info... The odd thing is that they could just stick it into their internet search engine and it could come up if there was one or it wouldn't come up if it didn't exist. Give that my phone call resulted in a worse kid's fare than the adult fare I had online, I think I should just embrace the fact that it was good while it lasted!
Online fares are often not visible to the phone agents. That's true with any airline.
Really? I was on the Delta website. Why wouldn't they let their phone agents sell what we can buy on their websites? Is the idea that they can price discriminate this way, charging people who can't be bothered with an online search more? I know that NWA charged a fee to make the reservation over the phone. But, I never ran into such an extreme fare difference, anytime I called in for some reason the fare was basically the same as whatever I found online.
You may be confusing "fare gone"as in someone snapped it up while you were talking AND phone agents seeing different fares. It
vs very possible someone bought the lower fare in between the time you saw it and the time you called, even if it was just a few minutes.
I don't think I confused anything. He was trying to claim that the fare got snapped up, but here it is 2 days later, and the fare I got online is still there. I don't know what the guy was looking at.

I had the same problem with Delta when I was trying to buy a ticket for my daughter to Rome. They kept quoting me a children's fare that was more than the adult fare. And when they went looking for the adult fare, they found that cheaper fare. They didn't know what was going on, either. They also booked me a "child lap" fare even though I was VERY specific that I wanted a seat for my daughter. I ended up using FF miles for my daughter (who is under 2) and I may cancel her ticket if the plane looks empty 24 hours before the flight. (It appears that it is barely 1/4 sold now...)
