haley_NE,

If you're Ok with the 14 year old doing this alone, I would suggest flying nonstop on Soutwest from Omaha to Phoenix, then taking the hourly Arizona Shuttle service from the airport to Tucson (2.5 hours travel, $52 roundtrip).

Both Southwest (cutoff age 12) and the Shuttle service (cutoff age 13) allow 14 year-olds to travel alone. Southwest even has youth fares available - you need to call them for those though. The best adult fare on nonstop flights I could find for your dates on their website was $265.70 all in.

I would only let my child do this if he/she were travel savvy and had a credit card and preferably a cell phone - if it were my child that would probably be the case ;-)

Hope this helps,

Or instead of having the kid connecting from aplane to a bus, why not fly him through to Tucson. NWA and AA hav under $300 fares for the dates you want with one connection. Why put the kid in some starnge bus situation? The airlines will charge some minimal amount for playing babysitter, but IMHO it's worth every penny. You drop him off at Omaha and the other side gets to pick him up Tucson, and the entire time he will be with an airline guardian overlooking the whole situation.

haley.....IMHO, I would chose Northwest...The flight from Omaha to Tucson is direct, making an intermediate stop in Minneapolis(7.24am departure arriving Tucson 10.50am).The return would be a connection via Minneapolis.Northwest will charge $45 unaccompanied minor charge going to Tucson and a $75.00 charge for the connecting flight.I am a big fan of DFW airport and American Airlines.BUT, I find that the airport CAN be a bit overwhelming even on a slow day.And even not having to change terminals.Again, just my two cents I think he would be better off changing planes on the trip in Minneapolis.Good Luck!
