Booked Lufthansa/United via Expedia - worried about seat reservation

I have booked a flight via Expedia, for a Lufthansa/United Airlines operated flight. My booking has been confirmed, but I received an email from Expedia:
Flight Update Regarding Your Seat Assignments
Please select a new seat for your upcoming flight

I went to Lufthansa's webpage to access my booking. When choosing 'Seat selection', the seatmap shows no available seats! (I'm on a connecting flight, and no seats are marked as available on either flights).I'm worried that my place on the flight is in danger. Could it be a technical error, and maybe I will be able to select a seat eventually?
I'm also an unexperienced air traveler, so I'm asking: Do I have any reason to worry?

I have also tried to go on Lufthansa website and go through the process of booking the exact same flight that I'm on. Oddly, when showing the seatmap, lots of seats apear as available.!

In this case I'd call the airline directly and get it straightened out.

I recently booked a flight using United FF miles and one of the flights was on TAP (Portugal). The seats showed me in row 42, last row at the back of the plane by the lavatory, according to seatguru. My wife had nothing assigned.

There was no way to change TAP seats online since I booked through United. I called TAP and quickly was assigned to row 17. This immediately showed up on my reservation when I log in to United.

Give Lufthansa a call, have your confirmation number and flight information handy. Good luck!

Good luck with Lufthansa. I have a round trip flight booked on United outgoing, on code share with Lufthansa on return. Lufthansa will NOT let me choose a seat until 24 hours before boarding either on line or via phone call. I'm fairly certain I'll have a seat but am travelling with a friend so HOPEFULLY we can get two seats together. I tried calling Lufthansa a couple of times and the answer is always the same. Due to code share ticket , I must wait till 24 hours before take off.
I should have known better NEVER to buy a ticket with code share!!

Just called Lufthansa, provided the booking number and my last name. Asked if I could get seat reservations. But the person on the other end of the line told me he currently assign me seat, and I should contact United. Said something about the ticket being 'not ready' on United side.

Just called Lufthansa again. Now they tell me I can not get a seat on line 24 hours before but MUST do it at the airport on day of departure. Something about revenue sharing not set up properly in the computer!!! Will keep calling about once a week. Maybe they will straighten this thing out before I leave in September

You're out of luck. Lufthansa won't give you an advance seat assignment.

I did some research on this yesterday. If you book a Lufthansa flight as a code share with United (your reservation is with United on a flight operated by Lufthansa) and you're in economy (depending on fare class), you can not reserve a seat prior to the day before your flight. Not even if you want to pay for it. United can not help you. Lufthansa will not help you. And then, you can only get the seat online if you're able to actually check-in online with Lufthansa...not United. I think you need the Lufthansa PNR to check in on their website.

You have to pay for an advance seat assignment on Lufthansa and they are not able to do that on code share tickets.

I had planned to book a code share flight through United on Lufthansa but changed my plans after researching this yesterday. I was able to find the flight as a Lufthansa ticket instead.

Phone United and ask for the Lufthansa locator number for your flight. You may be able to go on the LH site, join their Miles and More program, and then get a seat assignment on line. This used to be possible, at least in 2013, but I'm not sure if it still works. Good luck.

No such luck, BETSY. I've done all of the above and they will NOT give me a seat assignment. I emailed customer relations with the problem and they apologized but still CAN NOT get a seat assignment. In their response they told me to keep on trying as their glich could be fixed at some point. I now call daily!!!!

This STINKS! What is going on here. When I book a flight I WANT my seat number so I know where I am sitting. HATE middle seats so make sure I do not have that. Have not flown on Lufthansa for several years and it was with United FF miles. We had assigned seats. Looks like things have changed. They want your business but really don't give a damn about you unless you are in First Class. Airlines are a necessary evil!

It is very common to not be able to pick your seats. Some airlines let you select seats - but others only if you pay a fee, others if you book a full fare ticket, others 24 hours before the flight.

Plus -- no seat is guaranteed. You might select a specific seat and it gets changed at the airport, or even at the gate.
