BKK Transit Time - HKG to BKK to HKT on CX/TG - 2 Separate Tix

I've googled how long I would need for the transit time but still not 100% sure.

My wife and I (US Passports) will be flying into BKK from NRT (Connecting in HKG) on one ticket. We will be arriving at 6:00 pm. We then want to go to HKT and on to Khao Lak, but don't know if we could make the 7:30 pm flight. We will have checked bags.

Based on my reading, I can show my flight on Thai to the Cathay agents in NRT and hopefully they can make our bags go all the way through HKT even if we are two different tickets since Cathay and Thai are large international carriers. Is this correct? If so, what about Bangkok Airways?

The flight options from BKK to HKT are between 7:00, 7:35, and 10:40 on Thai, and 7:45 and 10:00 on Bangkok Airways
