I'm flying First LAX to JFK First. I have a choice of 1a, 1f, 4f, 5a, 5f.

I crave dark and quiet. I've sat in bulkhead Business on this plane and was bothered by proximity to lavatory. I was thinking 5a because no one is behind me but will that be bothered by Business lavatory users?


Coming home, I chose 10a business. Yay or nay?

Yes, deb thanks. It was hard to see if there is a wall dividing the business lavatory and gallery from row 5. I think there is. I just had an unpleasant experience in business with being near the lavatory - I don't want to repeat in first class. I'm probably overthinking this... I m just stressed .

Probably would be 5A for me. Row 1 is out per seatguru. Your other two options are on the starboard side which would be the sunny side flying east.

Not having anyone behind you is no advantage.

Coming back would be starboard side for me. Not row 6. I'll take 8F.

Sorry Im being ridiculus- Im blowing the last of my miles on what will hopefully be my last stressful trip for a while. I should just remind myself that my last three flights were in coach (Econ plus, but still...) and any of the above options will be better.

For a transcontinental flight I think it makes no difference whatsoever what side of the plane you are on.

Port out starboard home is falsely reported as an old steam ship reference from the 19th century, and definitely no connection to LAX-JFK flights.

If it were true, then JFK to LAK round trip would be soph?

No, you have it backwards (according to my preferences).

I don't know about steamships. What I do know is that I don't want the sun in my eyes when looking out the window. Traveling east<->west, I prefer to be looking north when I look out the window (when the sun is generally on the south side of the line of travel). I'll take 5A on a 6AM flight or maybe 4F on an afternoon departure (farther from the lav).

POSH obviously depends on origin and departure. Wait, maybe I do know something about steamship travel. On a previous thread I explained my preference for being on the non-sunny side of a plane. I think that is when I first learned about POSH. It was explained that it applied to Brits traveling to the USA where the preference would be the sunny side of the ship. The north/starboard side, going west, would be in the shadow of the ship and also I suppose facing the north wind, and so disadvantageous for enjoying a deck chair. Is that right, J62?

On the way back, on second thought, I would probably prefer an aisle seat as the only view from the windows will be of the wings.

If you go to the AA forum at flyertalk you might find a sticky thread about where to sit on the 321T.

For AA the term is "FEBO" - Front Even Back Odd. On even-numbered flights (eastbound) menu orders are taken from the front of the cabin, on odd-numbered flights (westbound) from the back. This is more critical in business class where they frequently run out of the most popular entree items before they get to the end of the cabin.

Gardy - thanks for your input. Food is always last on my mind. As long as I don't have to stop and buy something before boarding, or buy a snack on board, I'm good. The business section on this plane only has 20 people so I'm pretty sure they'll find something for me . Ps: hope things are looking up for Mrs Gardy.
