I'm in need of a "never taken before lay on a beautiful beach, safe swimming and snorkel vacation with good food". Typically, every year I take around 3 weeks to visit another country and the trip is active and packed with adventure. This year for a week I just want to relax with my 14 year old daughter and go somewhere I don't need to use my brain...much.
That said, I'm looking for tips on where to go that won't cost an arm and a leg just for the airfare portion where we can enjoy some beautiful, warm, turquoise waters that won't break the bank. Travel would probably be the 1st or 2nd week of August.
Help? Thanks!
Best deal/airline for a beach getaway from Seattle, WA in August?

How much (give us a price range in dollars) are you willing to spend on airfare? That will pretty much dictate where you can go. Terms like ""won't cost an arm and a leg" and "won't break the bank" are meaningless without a dollar point of reference. To put it bluntly unless you tell us we don't know how "long" your arms and legs are or how "strong" your bank is.
Some places to consider:
Hawaii
Southern California
Areas around the Sea of Cortez
Cancun
Cozemel
$400 or less for airfare would be preferred. If it gets pricier, like $600 then we just might keep our original plan and go to Belize, although less time on a plane could be a draw too.
I'd go to Hawaii myself (I'm in Seattle too). 6 hr nonstop flights on Hawaiian Air. Don't know the prices in August but I usually pay ~$300 in Dec/Jan.
Or you could head to Mexico. But August is NOT ideal at the beach resorts there. Hot hot HOT, humid & the rainy season.
suze where do you usually go?
In Hawaii, I mean. I know you're a PV girl!
I stay right in Waikiki/Honolulu (Oahu) 4x so far. I've also been to Maui (Lahaina) once on a family reunion trip. Gorgeous.
I always thought I "didn't like Hawaii" because of my strong affection for Mexico... that is until I finally went. Now I LOVE it.
Hip, no Costa Rica this year?
HVC usually like to go to Big Island
Kona great vibe less rain cheap flights SEA LAX KON

Cheapest fly down the coast to La Jolla www.bajaquest.com

Happy Hunting,
www.lajolla.com
wonderful food vibe nice surf little chilly water though
unless you like kelp snorkel not too great.
Kona or Belize or www.xel-ha.com Tulum best for that
But tonnes of fun.
Great! Thanks for the tips I'll consider all those. If I can grab good airfare to HI that would be great otherwise might still choose Belize.

Jeff - yes I'm still meeting up with shillmac and tully in CR but daughter won't be coming this time so looking for a mom/daughter trip.
I went to Cancun in July a few years ago and got what I thought was a great deal. Of course, there was a reason -- it was ungodly hot and humid. I've been to Hawaii several times in the summer and it was much, much more comfortable.
What's the weather like in Belize in August, hvc?
To me it's the August part of your post that jumps out, just knowing what the weather is like in Mexico at the beach spots that time of year. Isn't it the same in central america? Rainy season, hot hot hot & humid?
Hi Hip,
Saw your name when I was looking for ideas for my April trip to Seattle. We met briefly at BDC when you stayed with Tully and shillmac that first year.
Our fav is still Kona because of the cool vibe. Also we like to drive to a new snorkel beach every day and there are lots of beautiful coves. Usually get a condo but really want to try the newly reno'd King Kamehameha Hotel. A special on now...think your daughter would like that location right in town. Try the snow cones with soft serve in the middle. How did we ever get hooked on those?
Missed our Kona holiday this year but have a wedding in Maui in May to look forward to.
Alaska Airlines flies to Hawaii, direct from Seattle. Last time I checked, if you are a member of their ff program and apply for their credit card, you get a free companion ticket. I don't think there's any deal out there better than that. My wife and I went to Kauai via Seattle from Newark on Alaska in 1st class and felt that it was a great deal on a good airline.
thanks all.
suze and andrew - no doubt belize or cancun will be hot and humid in august and so far hawaii's taking the lead anyway on price, travel time and the type of vacay we're looking for this time around.
rivet - good to see you here hope things are well! i will check out those places, thank you!
craig - AK and Hawaiian seem to have the best deals right now and i do know about that credit card offer, thanks!
I love going to Mexico and Hawaii both. I just think for the particulars you're seeking in this trip... it's got Hawaii written all over it (relaxing, easy to plan, not too expensive, etc.). Hawaii has little perks that make it especially easy since there's no issues with currency, language barrier, water and food safety, etc.
