Best airline: NYC to Amsterdam for price & comfort next year early May?
What is the best economy plus type tickets to look for for flight from NYC to Amsterdam next early May? I'm no expert on this, but economy plus seats are looking very expensive for next May. Do any of you experts have any suggestions for us two very senior citizens? Thanks for any pointers.

taconictraveler,
You maybe picking a popular time (tulip season ??) to go to AMS. I would sign up for Travelocity or similiar website "Fare Alert E-mail" and hopefully you will come across a decent deal.
I do not necessarily advocate waiting "For The Best Deal" as that can be a very subjective thing in the airline business. What looks like an expensive ticket today can seem like a bargain price tomorrow or vice-versa since ticket prices can change up and down like an elevator.
Find an airline or website that will refund you the difference or give you some type of credit if your airfare goes down after you purchase it.
Good luck

There are surprisingly relatively few nonstop flights from the US to AMS, but there are a few. But I found travel to Amsterdam particularly expensive, and I flew in March; May is even more expensive.
I flew Lufthansa earlier this year, and while it was annoying and time-consuming to change planes, I did so in Munich, which was a lovely airport (Frankfurt is bigger and less user-friendly ... Munich has free coffee and newspapers). However, the final leg was on a small regional jet, so no economy plus there. Perhaps look at United and Lufthansa. United codeshares are often cheaper than booking Lufthansa directly, but you have fewer options for economy-plus seating that way.

I like Icelandair (but not their FF program.. that's a joke).
Very short connections in Reykjavik and a smooth transition between flights or stop over if you have the time and inclination as they often don't charge.
Might be cheaper too... under $1000 for May dates

Sassy-cat: I'm actually considering Icelandic. Two of my best friends just flew to Amsterdam on Icelandic last night. They are stopping over in Rekjavik for a couple of days on their way back. I'm waiting til their return in 12 days to check their experience. Thanks for the reminder.

We just did the same thing this past spring. We flew from Boston to Amsterdam via Reykjavik and on the way home we stopped for a couple of days in Iceland. We flew business class. It was a nice experience. The only drag is that it's a relatively short flight to Reykjavik on the way over (about 4.5 hours) so you don't have much sleeping time. I was able to sleep for an hour or so on the way to Amsterdam. The IcelandAir lounge was recently renovated and it's quite nice with a pretty good assortment of food. It was a short layover on the way to AMS, maybe 1.5 hours total.

Why change planes when you can get a nonstop? KLM is in the Skyteam alliance with Delta and there are numerous nonstop flights out of the USA to Amsterdam-sometimes several times a day.Seattle,Atlanta,Chicago,Detroit,Minneapolis,JF K,LAX, Boston,etc.-check out your city on either KLM or Delta's website for exact flights.
