Any tips on finding the most affordable flights right now?
Is an airfare of $1100 from the Northeast USA to Stuttgart, Germany for the first week of August reasonable?
If I can find a low cost flight, I may have the opportunity to tag along to Germany on a last minute trip that seems to be taking shape. Thought I'd check here as the last time I was in Europe was 18 years ago!
Appreciate any thoughts/suggestions.
Enjoy-la!

Do you have to fly to STR? Can you fly to FRA, ZRH, or MUC and train to Stuttgart? Can you fly into elsewhere and intercept the trip in another city? Use fare alert tools.
The chances of finding a cheap, last minute flight are close to nil. Planes are flying quite full, and it's heavy summer travel season in both directions.
Look into JetAirways into or through Brussels. You may find a better deal there.
Thx a mint for the replies and tips. I'll look into these and manage my expectations.
I did look at flying into/out of Paris but the flight was only $40 cheaper. Will check the other German airports listed - thx!

have you tried Air Berlin??
Air Berlin is a great find! Actually flights for $650+. However, we're thinking of coming back via Paris instead and a one-way back is as expensive as a return flight (AB doesn't fly out of Paris to the USA). This trip is now on hold as other parameters out of our control have changed too...sigh. Good to know for a future trip tho!
