Airline Mileage credit cards
I had a United VISA credit card a while back that gave me 25,000 bonus miles for signing up. I then cancelled the card a few months back I now have the offer again for the United VISA card with 25,000 bonus miles. Now the terms say the bonus miles will not be awarded for exisiting cardmembers and is only awarded for new accounts. Has anyone tried to get the card again to see if in fact the bonus miles were awarded?

Have heard of people who open multiple accounts to get multiple bonuses. This with the accounts open concurrently. When you cancelled your old card you lost your "existing cardmember" status, right? The new card is a new account. Those terms are for people who have an active card and just call up and say they want the bonus miles (maybe thinking they are entitled to the bonus miles every year after paying the annual fee).
But my answer to your question is: not me.

The T&Cs also make reference to "first-time cardmembers" so I would interpret that as someone who has never held this particular card product.
If you've had the personal card and the same offer is available for the business card, I'd go for the business card (or vice versa). Sign up bonuses for personal and business cards are separate and IMO it's the safest way to ensure you get a second bonus.

I actually received the bonus twice on the United Chase card. I first signed up in 2006 and when I hit 50,000 miles (including the 21,000) bonus miles I booked a trip to Central Asia (strange, but United counts Kazakhstan as Europe for mileage purposes). When I returned from that trip in May 2007, I canceled the card.
Last December, I flew Air New Zealand to NZ and the South Pacific on a paying ticket and I earned 20,000+ miles in my empty United account. Since I had 20,000 that I didn't want to lose thru inactivity, I reapplied for the United Chase card, not expecting the 21,000 bonus. But, surprisingly, I did receive the 21,000 bonus a few weeks after my first charge on the card.
I would have thought they tracked that stuff based on the mileage plus number, but either they don't or I fell thru the cracks.

You can't get a second bonus on the United Visa anymore. You used to be able to, but they finally put a stop to it. You can still apply for their business card though, and can get the bonus again that way.
