AIR NZ 767-300 ADVICE PLEASE

Has anyone flown on Air NZ on their 767-300?

If so, how small/large is the business area vs the economy area?

I'm claustrophobic and generally prefer having a long distance between myself and a wall in front of me.

I am wondering if the longer seat pitch and wider seat in business that is less tight on space will be better or feel less restricted.

Anyone have any experience with this aircraft?

I don't love to fly. I have done long flights in economy (not Air NZ) and tolerated them before. I have never tried business.

I am considering it since on this flight the personal entertainment is not available except in business. Being able to watch a movie or play a game I pick is one of the things that makes flying more tolerable for me. Looking at a blank seat back reminds me how closed in I already feel.

I am trying to weigh the difference between the two types of seats.

I also posted on the NZ area of Fodors. Sorry to anyone who read the post there.

I have looked at seatguru. I am looking for advice from anyone who has flown on this aircraft lately.

Does anyone have any info on the inflight entertainment on the 767-300?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

From what I understand, the current entertainment system on the NZ 763 has 8 channels of video which is not on demand. 763s are supposed to be retrofitted with on-demand video starting July to be completed by October but I don't know how accurate those dates are.

No experience with this particular aircraft. However as a fellow claustrophobe, I find flying in business helps tremendously

Patty,

Thanks for the info on the retrofit.

I have been thinking that more room might offset the smaller cabin.

I flew in the new NZ business class seats on a 767 back in January and November between AKL and SYD.

The seats are angled to the aisle, so there isn't anyone in front of you reclining back. The space in front of you is open as you are looking at folks across the aisle (and they are angled in to the aisle, facing forward). So you see them from the side.

These seats convert to lie flat beds. The bed is comfortable, maybe a bit like a coffin though. I only tried it for a few minutes.

The seats have a privacy wall on one side. The first time I flew it I thought it was a bit narrow in the shoulders. On the second time it didn't seem as bad. This is not claustrophobic, I think, just a bit tight (or at least not roomy) for broad shoulders.

Service and food were excellent.

mrwunrfl,
Aren't you describing the herringbone seats on the 772 which is sometimes used between AKL-SYD? AFAIK 763s have standard forward facing cradle seats.
