Air France AMS/CDG and KLM CDG/AMS Seat Assignments

Next month we are flying Delta to Amsterdam, connecting to Air France to Paris. The return from Paris is on KLM to Amsterdam, connecting to Delta transatlantic. We have seats on the DL flights, but so far no seats on either AF or KLM. Tickets are Sky Miles awards, economy, and were booked on the Delta website.

I have called both Air France and KLM about getting seat assignments, but calling either in the US, one gets Delta agents who seem not to know when, or if, we can get advance seat assignments on the AF and KLM flights.

Does anyone know when one can get seats assigned on these flights?

The flights are so short, does it really matter that much?

I recently talked directly to a SkyMiles agent who not only found tickets on KLM that the Delta website didn't show but assigned better seats than I asked for. It took some dithering around since the agent had to go to the KLM computers (or so he said) but it was certainly worth it in the end. Now I have my fingers crossed that KLM honours the seat assignments; they lost them for a recent paid flight. Advance seat selection is one aspect that affects my choice of airlines so they better make it work if they want to keep my business.

Thanks. Yes, the flights are short, but I still would like advance seat assignments if they are available. If not, that's fine, but in my experience when a flight is overbooked, it's those without seat assignments who get bumped. After flying all night and waiting for five hours at Schiphol, getting bumped would not be fun.

Longhauls can get advanced seat assigments, shorthauls no. No need to worry about being bumped. Nothing you can do about it anyways.
