Air deals to Europe in July 2011?

For many reasons, I have not been able to plan a much longed for European vacation before this. My husband, my teens and I are open to going almost anywhere. We just can't find what seems to be a reasonable deal out of Nashville on July 15th or 16th to return on the 24th. Any ideas?

Do I just need to bite the bullet and pay $1200 or so per person to go to Paris or $1400 to go to Rome? Is that a pretty normal summer rate? I've tried to explore Dublin, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Lisbon. But, everything is four digits. Should I try to find a pre-packaged tour that includes air? If so, any suggestions? We don't want to be in a large bus with 30 other people. Please
help!

Search for flights using www.kayak.com, and under "more options" check +/- 3 days, and search nearby airports.

I'm seeing flights Nashville to Rome for about $1250 for your dates, and to Paris for the same price.

You can see the lowest prices for different days at a glance and it doesn't get any lower.

I just found a flight for $767, Miami to London on Delta leaving June 15 and returning on July 13. This is a new Delta flight. Take the Chunnel at night to Paris to save money.

Too bad Nashville is not Miami and June is not July.

Anyways, $1,300 from a non-gateway city to Europe in July is not far from the norm over past several years, and with fuel prices right now, definitely expected for 2011.

My husband paid $1300 for a PIT-CDG-GVA flight leaving July 16, returning July 31. It was the best I could find.

This is using one of the few (only?) non-stops PIT - Europe (Delta). I found it interesting that it was about $200 more to NOT continue on to GVA. Same with a IAD-GVA flight. It cost more than a PIT-IAD-GVA flight. Crazy!

Gosh, I guess that makes sense. Thanks for offering perspective and sharing info. I'll continue exploring. I'm leaning towards some of the air and stay packages in Ireland. Then, next year, we'll plan at least two weeks and travel in June.
