Air Canada - Vancouver-Montreal-QuebecCity
Hi All,
Need a bit of guidance. Bought Air Canada tickets, one way Vancouver to Quebec City connecting thru Montreal.
Now there is a change in the plan. And I want to go Montreal only, and would like to skip the second leg of the trip. Problem solved, right.
Tried to be good citizen and tried to change the itinerary on Air Canada website. $120 per person charge. And we are a family of four.
I will have checked baggages. My question is Can I simply ask at Vancouver counter to check my baggages to Montreal? By the way I am Star Alliance Gold member, would that help?

Just be glad the change fees aren't more. I (almost) always book in the lowest fare category and a couple of times I have been hit with fees when I've had to have had to change, but consider that overall I come out ahead in the end.

Yes, you can ask AC in Vancouver to "shortcheck" your luggage. If they ask why, tell them you are meeting someone in Montreal. Pick up your luggage in Montreal and off you go.
If you were in the habit of doing this and were an AC frequent flyer, then your profile would likely be flagged. But since it doesn't sound like you are an AC FF, there should be no future problems.
FYI - Do not try dropping the last leg on a trip where you have a return flight. Your return flight would be cancelled
