YMCA in Jerusalem

Has anyone stayed at the YMCA in Jerusalem? We visited it when we were in Jerusalem in 2008 and it looked like an interesting possibility -- large pool and good location. Reviews on Trip Advisor are mixed.

I posted one of the reviews on TripAdvisor and can only say that if the hotel has not been renovated in the past few months I would find some place else to stay.

Thanks. I'll start a new thread about my current thinking about plans for this trip.

I overnighted there a couple years ago. The public areas were interesting and historical. The location was pretty good -- short walk to the old city -- but I recall there weren't a lot of restaurants and such right by the hotel. I had to walk a bit to get to a falafel shop. The room was a bit shabby, but I recall it being adequately clean and comfortable. The only thing that was a bit off-putting was that, iirc, instead of individually wrapped bars of soap, there was a little pile of (previously used?) soap bars.

If recent tripadvisor reviews don't sound worse than what I experienced, I'd be willing to stay there again, but I'd look around at alternatives first.

I like the "Yimca" because of its location, availability of parking, facilities, and especially its pricing.

It's true many of the rooms are a bit outdated, but I've never found them less than spotlessly clean, and the architecture (same firm that designed the Empire State Building) is superb.

I also like that the restaurant is non-Kosher and that it's across the street from the King David Hotel, home of the best veggie burger in the world.
