yad vashem children's memorial

We learned on our trip that approximately one and a half million children died in the Holocaust. The children's names are read aloud as you walk through the children's memorial. We can't remember if 1 1/2 million names are read aloud, or if the number is smaller because not all of the names are known at this time. I've searched several sites but can't find the answer. Thank you.

Sadly, we do not know the names of many of the children who were slaughtered in the Holocaust - and we never will.

The Children's Memorial is a symbolic representation of the million and a half souls of children killed in the Holocaust. In reality only a very small number of names are recited in a loop as a way of trying to personalize this event.

Thanks Oreet. My husband said he thought the guide told us 4,000 or maybe he said 400,000 names are read in a loop. I can't remember him telling us a number other than 1 1/2 million children killed.

During the Holocaust Day, all 6,000,000 names are read in public out loud, if the name is unknown, it's read like this: "child 3 years old"

Should be like this at Yad Vashem. Sorry, when I was there I couldn't go to children's building. Too overwhelming.

The children's memorial is indescribable. If you can wait until any other people, especially groups, have gone in for awhile, you will have it all to yourselves, as I did. Really makes a difference to be in there by oneself.
