Fantastic pics and report once again. I am also considering a visit to Madagacar, but have chickened out and decided to take a cruise rather than a land tour. Sadly, this does mean I'll have to compromise on wildlife sightings. On the plus side, I'll hopefully avoid the bad roads you so vividly describe.
Welcome to Fodors!
Wonderful photos. I have always wanted to go to Madagascar, and after looking at your photos, I REALLY want to go! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for checking them out!
Fantastic photos! Especially of lemurs, which is probably the primary animal sighting one goes to Madagascar for.
Having visited Madagascar in September, I can confirm that this report is amazing. Mad is a fun, though not easy, adventure. Photography is a special challenge, making these photos incredible. Some of them had to be taken at night with difficult to find animals, especially, for example, the mouse lemurs. For the person considering taking a cruise, I would advise going for the full experience and go by land. The roads are a huge problem but that's Madagascar and many places will be inaccessible by boat.
Aargh, lost my previous post!
Mediatorr I've returned from the Indian Ocean cruise, and while I got just a taste of each location, there were many samplings to be had with lots of surprises.
Coke is quite tough and even if I had taken a land tour, I don't think I would have been as successful with the wildlife. One area that was rather more succesful than I would have liked was the snakes! I'll take fur and feathers anyday- except for the chameleons- they were cool!
Thanks gang! Yes we work hard on our trips but the return is great and it helps keep us in shape...(It's the between-trip times that keep us out of shape...). The nighttime shots are a lot of fun and it gets us out during a time where there is an entire new assemblage of species. But they are a challenge to photograph for sure. Thanks for looking and for the comments!
