I am busy working (but having a great time) on getting my photos together. I have sorted throught the lot, picked out a bunch, and now I am sorting through those..

My questions for posting here
1. How many are too many?
2. Do people tend to crop the photo before posting, or is that "cheating".

Seems that I can do it all in iPhoto, and then but it onto Mobile Me (that is Mac talk for you PC types). I might then be able to make a webpage but I haven't explored that far yet, technolgy is so amazing.

Isn't the saying all is fair in love and war and photo posting?

My own preference is if there are over 125 photos, then have separate albums by location. That way people can look at only the places they are interested in. Or you can state the first 20 photos are from x, 21-50 are from y, etc. and number them in the album. Or just do whatever you want to do because they are your photos.

Agree with Lynn on the numbers.

Regarding cropping, not only is that not "cheating," it is mandatory as a part of processing and posting pictures! Do not let Tom catch you asking if cropping is OK!

When we posted the photos from our last trip, I just put the link to our Shutterfly albums, that way it was just the best pictures rather making everyone sort through the 6000 we had taken!

You're busted amy!!! Cropping never has been considered "cheating". Just an extension of the "artistic vision"

Like others say, if more than a couple dozen photos try to group them in some way. Sounds like you still have to decide on a web site to put them on like perhaps, pbase, flickr, kodakgallery, smugmug, etc.

Have fun, I always enjoy wading through my safari photos. At least the first time.

I enjoy viewing a contributor's photos particularly when some effort has been made to cull out the "15th" shot of the same animal no mattter how cute, to identify camps/lodges and even odd,different,or unusual wildlife and maybe to have some flow/organization such as the progress of the trip or subject matter. But, that is in an ideal sense and if the contributor doesn't have the time or interent I am still delighted to be able to enjoy the pics. Occassionally, I share our pics on Kodakgallery.com with would-be safari goers and my intent with some titled photos (cropped or not) is to impart some additional info for them so they might be able to formulate ideas as to what we saw and experienced. And, like Tom, I too enjoy reviewing those pics maybe for a quick "pick me up" when I long for EA. Perfection no- heck just this week I realized I have been mispelling wildebeest for years!
So, Amy, post away! Many of us are anxious for new material to enjoy! Dick

Best to crop pics when loading to say a: kodak, pbase, flicker, as when (if) you send them to be printed, the process will crop to the size (i.e., 4"x6") and might be returned in a manner you don't like.

Many thanks for your thoughts in how to post and group my pics.

I will most likely go with the location as a basis for grouping. I don't need kodack or smug mug, as it seems iphoto will do it, but i shall see.

As this is my first safari, I think so many of my shots came out great. But i might need to take a look at some veteran posters to really see if some of those shots are worth putting up. I have a lot of active lion shots that I think are amazing, they are wrestliing, eating, walking thru water, it was truly the most exciting of all the sitings, but .... perhaps less is more.
and the eles are my favorite, but I will try to limit my posting of eles. And I guess I will leave out the routine zebra, impala, giraffe shots.

and now back to iphoto...

Amy, lest I gave the impression in earlier post that only the spectacular sights be posted, I humbly apologize. I will enjoy seeing what you saw--after all this is one way to relive previous trips, to see your trip thru your eyes and also for would-be safari goers to see what they might experience. Not everyone knows what an impala or topi is. So, show us what you like. I have never seen a lion wadding and shots of kills and feeding are rather precious in my opinion. It is your show! Dick

If you think the shots are great, Amy, that's all that counts. As for cropping, if I can stick a penguin on the back of a puku and have a shark attack them, you can certainly crop a photo.

Now you have our curiosity raised with the exciting descriptions.
