What do you sleep in, on safari
I'm going on Safari in October, to Kenya and Tanzania. We will be staying in some lodges and some tented camps: Serengeti • Ngorongoro Crater • Tarangire • Lake Manyara • Amboseli • Sweetwaters. The itinerary is at http://www.oattravel.com/gcc/general...spx?oid=119170.
What do I need to bring to sleep in? Will it be chilly at night? I spoke to one co-worker who said that she slept in her clothes, to make it easier to get up in the morning, but that sure sounds uncomfortable. What do you do?

Ann, the strangest thing: I don't remember. So it must have been normal PJs or close to it.
I've been on safari in Northern Tanzania twice, in lodges, in tented camps, really truly camping, etc. I can say with certainty that I've never slept in my clothes to make it easier to get up in the morning.
Bring pajamas or a nightshirt or a long T-shirt and yoga pants. If you get cold, wear socks to bed.
Have a great trip!

You can check the weather on weather underground, for the historic temperatures for the time you will be there- remember they are averages!!! Tske whatever you would be comfortable in- I sure would NOT be sleeping in my regular clothes- yuck- how uncomfortable!! Whether it is yoga pants & a tee shirt, or a light nighty, or boxers and a tee or tank, whatever you normally wear- be comfortable, but remember you may hear or see something during the night- so not too sexy!!! LOL

"What do I need to bring to sleep in?"
They usually provide a bed, so you don't have to bring one.
Seriously, just what you would normally use at home. The only caviat is if you'll be at high altitude. We used long johns in Rwanda, otherwise just warm weather sleeping gear. Our trip was in June.

Hello,
I bring silk pyjamas on all of my trips. Silk is the original wonder fabric - it's warm in cold weather, cool in hot weather, takes up very little space in your luggage, and is very comfortable.
Cheers,
Julian

On my mobile safari (solo), I took sleepwear that I wouldn't be embarrassed in if I had to run out of my tent in the middle of the night. Cotton pj bottoms and a t-shirt. The hyenas whooooping really made me want to go shack up with the others.

Funny you should ask that question. It's a good one. The beds have so many blankets that you roast no matter what the temperature. Don't wear your dirty clothes from the day. I wore a clean sleeping t-shirt and shorts. My husband wore shorts nad no shirt. We just returned one week ago. Some things get too over exaggerated. Betty

A t-shirt regardless time of year. I buy those Tall Man's XL (size42) V-neck. 3/pk at about $12. (purchase direct from Hanes in the Carolinas).
They're long enough to cover my butt if ever I had to evacuate quickly... in fact, they almost come down to my knees. Also, have a pair of leggings should I feel legs need to be covered... never have. These shirts are roomy and so comfy to sleep in. As mentioned above, the blankets are warm, there are extras if you need. Most of the high-end camps have down comforters.
My travel companions: female- have worn light cotton PJs, or male- t-shirt or nothing at all.
