Starting to think about a 2013 trip to South Africa to include Cape Town and a safari. Would like to enlist help of someone who knows SA well. Have seen good things on this site about Sun Safaris and Southern Destinations. Does anyone have any experience with Ker & Downey? Or a local agent in the Washington DC/ northern Virginia area?
Want to find agent/trip planner for South Africa

Yvette at African Portfolio. They are right in CT. 800-700-3677
Going on our third trip to Africa with Yvette planning and setting it up.
We recommend Tanya Kotze of Africa Direct; check out her very user friendly website. We specifically did not want a USA agent, preferring someone on the ground there, with local knowledge. She did not disappoint on our recent (Sept.) safari.
I'd recommend Ntaba Tours in Kentucky, run by two South Africans, Robin and Stella Mountain. They are licensed SA tour guides and often accompany their groups, although they can book your independent travel, as well. I've just returned from SA, traveling with Robin for the first part of the tour and independently for the last part. www.ntabatours.com
We also used Tanya of Africa Direct. Very professional and knowledgeable. Contacted us when we were on safari to make sure all was going well. Much better prices than Australia also.
My vote goes to Sun Safaris (but you already knew of that firm)
I can help, I am in Northern Virginia. Not supposed to solicit business on Fodor's, but can help you as much as possible.
...and my brochure is at The Old Broque Irish Pub in Great Falls, VA.
ecoAfrica, located in Milnerton/South Africa (Cape Town), has been of enormous value for us. Our Kenyan holiday was far from easy for numerous agents (we had strict ideas about what we wanted and what we absolutely didn't want). They know their ins and outs of other African countries, but especially about SAfrica.
ecoAfrica had employee Elsabe Jooste to help us, and she did! She never gave up and made everything possible within our wishes and budget for the first two weeks. The third week we arranged a beach house ourselves. When we got into trouble in that third week of our holiday, ecoAfraca/Elsabe was of great support to help us solving our problems in a very flexible way!
Thanks http://www.ecoafrica.com !
(I posted this text already in another answer, for it's exactly the same question)
