I was wondering if anyone has gone on a volunteer/vacation to Africa......I have received some information from a group called Cross Cultural Solutions...It is pricey but provides housing , food, volunteer placement, and free time to persue other sightseeing etc.
I am a senior citizen and would be interested in teaching English, conversational English, pronounciation etc. I prefer working with adults and would especially enjoy the opportunity to work to empower women.....
I would appreciate any information on this topic....
Thank you,
SPSAND

It is ok personally I do not pay large sums to "volunteer"
Prefer to work directly with needy folks boots on the ground
for 95% less... but if you want to lay out up to $5k to
"volunteer" for a few weeks go for it.
Might check with Doctors without Borders far better for me.

good link for you so as to not get scammed.
Personally try not to do a job that would take away
work from a local they desarately need them so I end
up helping in medical settings orphanages etc. usually
for food stipend costs me usually no more than $100/wk total

VERY rewarding fun and cheap if you get the right placement
but MANY scammers middlemen get most of the money sadly.

Helping baby turtles was great cheap fun B4 that.
I am going to Ghana in mid May to volunteer. I am also a senior. Our team will be working with children.....adults....helping at a hospital and doing some construction work. I am going with Global Volunteers www.globalvolunteers.org.
As an aside I have travelled with Global Volunteers almost 50 times and have been delighted with the experience.
idealist.org is a site I like to check for volunteering. Good luck with the planning.
An additional option to consider is the Volunteer Partnerships for West Africa at www.vpwa.org. VPWA was one of 10 volunteer organizations in the world recognized by the United Nations with a 2011 Online Volunteering Award.
I volunteer each year on a surgical mission to a fabulous yet remote part of our globe then travel. You do not have to be a surgical nurse to volunteer, we always need help...look at this site....
