Visa requirements for Egypt and Jordan

I'll be on a cruise in the Middle East in April/May. We will arrive in Egypt (first stop Safaga) and Jordan (Aquaba). Can we get our visas at the port in each place?. We will not be doing
the ship's tours, but will travel independently with driver/guides.

When asking a question about visa requirements it's always best to state your citizenship because the rules are not the same for every nationality.

I am a US citizen and my first trip to Egypt was on a cruise ship. The ship took care of the visa and there was nothing for me to do. That was 10 years ago and I assume the same is true today but I don't know with certainty. On my second trip to Egypt I got my visa at the airport.

I visited Jordan in 2007 and I arrived by ferry. We got our visas at the port. I don't know if that will be necessary for you since the cruise line might take care of that as well.

In either country there is no need to get your visa in advance. In my group we had Americans, British, Canadians and Aussies and they had no problems getting visas on arrival. However I suggest calling the cruise line to ask these questions and please post back in case it will help others.

Now that I think about it, I did take the Egypt tour with the ship which could be why they took care of my Egyptian visa. If you are not doing ship a tour you probably do need to get a visa at the port and I think that s/b easy. My Egyptian visa at the airport cost $15US so bring correct change. If you are not American you can check the Egyptian and Jordanian Embassy's web sites to find out the requriements.

Once again, these are good questions for your cruise line.

By all means you should be asking your cruise line what they wil do. Since we work with lots of tourists off different ships in Alexandria, I think most of them arrange the visa. It may make a LITTLE difference if you are spending the night off the ship or not. They should take care of it either way though.
Believe me though - if a ship docks, Egypt WANTS you off that ship spending your money in Egypt, so if the ship does not get you the visa, Egypt will accommodate with a visa office at the port. Even Egypt has that much sense, I think.

Debbie - you make me laugh! $$$$$, they'll take it!

Believe the same holds true for Jordan, either the cruise ship will obtain the Visa for you or you should be able to purchase at port of entry. Ask your cruiseline.

Egyptian entry visa obtainable onboard the cruise before your pick up, that is operating by the Egyptian Immigration to all passenger of the cruise.
