My husband has a good camera, but was advised by a middle eastern work colleague to take a video camera because there is so much to see. I was under the impression that many of the monuments are "no go areas" for videos? As he'd have his large Nikon, I wonder if it is worthwhile for him to lug around a video cam as well... despite them being only small these days.
Thank god for digital photos... snap, snap and snap away.. hundreds of times without the cost of photo processing skyrocketing!

I'm not really sure why you would take a video camera - not much that you're going to look at is "moving", and where you can't take video, you can't take pictures either (ex. inside the tombs at Valley of the Kings).
My 2 cents. Video works best for moving subjects with natural background sounds. Like on safari with lion cubs playing. For a pyramid a still shot works fine. For street scenes or markets with bustling traffic and sounds video is nice. It really depends on why and what you like to do with your photos.

Good thinking about there mainly being still pics SF and Cary.... I told my husband that there are many "no go" zones in regards to video and photos... but you know men!!! Thanks for the thought...I'll mention this to him.
If he's willing to carry it and the charger, what's the problem with taking it?

You do know that if you suggest he not take it, and he sees something he'd like video of, even something silly, you'll never live it down.

Even if he takes it, he'll have to carry it with him 100% of the time to get that spontaneous "gotta have it" shot.
No... it will probably end up in my handbag!

Isn't that ALWAYS the way it goes???????? LOL!
I think in the main the still camera will be the one you would use the most. But of course if you are doing a nile cruise then you might like to use it onboard during sailing so that you can take some video of the nile river bank etc and the onboard shows.
I would make a deal with him that its the still camera for off boat, and the video for on. Cos my DH does exactly the same with the "can you just hold that for me love" or "would that fit in your bag sweetheart" hmmmm fell for that too many times now lol

Men.......they really ARE all the same aren't they?
Here's my answer to that -- I traded in a camera with a huge body and lens for a tiny little digital camera just so I wouldn't have to lug that big honker around anymore. So no, I probably don't have room in my bag for your stupid video camera that you shouldn't have brought with you anyway. Dear.
