Victoria Falls and Safaris in October
This is a follow up of the post titled "Dream Vacation to Africa". Surfing Internet I came to websites the shows the weather for Victoria Falls and the region for the month of October. It said is the hottest month of the year (40C to 50C). Need comments of your experience in this area. Is it possible to enjoy Victoria Falls and Safari in that so high temperature?

Thanks for your help.

I didn't realize that October was so hot. For some reason, I thought December was the hottest month. A few years ago we were at Vic Falls over Thanksgiving and stayed at the Elephant Hills Hotel on the Zim side. The temperature was about 40 C, but the humidity was the worst part. We changed clothes several times a day. The hotel was air conditioned so we able to sleep okay, but the idea of going to Africa is not to stay in an air conditioned hotel room. When it is 40 C and you are in a stifling native market looking for gifts, the body odor can just blow you away. Also, the flows of the river are reduced after the dry season until enough rain has fallen to bring the volume of water back up.

Another consideration when going on safari in the wet season is that the bush sprouts greenery so fast it becomes hard to see game. In the period May through mid-September most of the bush, other than the ubiquitious thorn trees, shed their greenery and one can see quite far into what is normally thick green bush. In the wet season you can hear game run off when your land rover approaches and never see it. The ranger will generally say that is a "whatever" and he is probably correct, however, it is difficult to show photos of this to friends and relatives back home. There are plenty of exceptions to the above comment and you should seek out local knowledge for the area you plan to visit.

My opinion? Go between May and September for safaris if possible. If the only time you can get to Africa is October, go to Africa in October.
