US Dollar vs. Local Currency- Tanzania & Kenya

Jump to last reply

I have noticed on many posts that most people choose to tip in US dollars at least in Tanzania. Now I know it may be of some minor inconvenience for the guides, etc. but is it really a big deal? My travel agent is more or less insisting that one really needs to convert to the local currency for tipping. What I have read is that it appears to be more proper in Kenya but not a big deal in Tanzania.
Can anyone out there confirm or deny my impressions? This will be my first safari so I don't have any personal experience. Thanks
