Two Nights in Tangiers
We will be spending two nights in Morocco at the end of our trip to southern Spain. With that limited time, we plan to just stay in Tangiers. Any recommendations for favorite guest houses or hotels?
Since our dates, Dec 30-Jan1, will be a busy time, I would like to reserve the hotel soon.
I was able to make a reservation at the Grand Ville de France, and although it has great reviews, would really prefer something with a more Moroccan feel for Tangiers. Any suggestions for smaller riad-type accommodations?
Please help me also with your favorite location for a hotel, as well as any suggestions for restaurants and tours or guides.
Thank you so much!

This is my favorite, La Tangerina. At the top of the medina with views over the water from the roof terrace. An intimate and well-done, quality accommocation:

The Tangier medina isn't huge so you can walk all over from here.

No, but my ex stayed there for a month last Nov. Loved it. I'll have to ask him for more info. Am just about to leave for Mojacar. We'll have to get together for a drink, or two, when we get back. Yes, the snows finally melted here !

Sallam 'lekum arindasue, as well as the knowledgeable Fodorites Bedar and Mme Perdu. In addition to La Tangerina, my other medina-based recommendation would be Dar Chams...
One of the best maisons d’hôtes in the Medina, with hands-on multi-lingual owners. Surprisingly spacious inside, the large uncluttered rooms all have a/c and satellite TV, and some enjoy glorious port and bay views. There’s a floor dedicated to wellness, offering a hammam, separate massage room, and a chill-out room to saviour the experience. Meals can be taken formally in the dining room or casually up on the roof terrace.
Mind you, I've been dying to stay a night (or 20) in the restored Le Grand Hôtel Villa de France, for nostalgia's sake. The one big consideration to heed is in-room heating at that time of the year.
Happy travels,
Darren Humphrys
