We arrived at Dubai at 2PM and out of immigration in about 30 minutes.
There is a left luggage facility outside the airport (AED 10 per bag per 12 hours)
Took a taxi from the taxi stand and asked the driver if he is familier with Dubai sights that he can drive us around. He was operating taxi for 5 years and he turned out to be a good goude.
He drove us along the hanging bridge, Emirates towers, new under construction tallest tower (Burj I think), beach hotels including Burj, Jumerah, Dubai Marina and the Jumerah Palms. He stopped in several places for us to get down and take pictures.
It was about 95 degrees but very humid that we were completely sweating in 2 minutes and did not even feel like getting out from the air conditioned taxi.
He finally dropped off us at Abra and after 4 hours the meter was just AED 175 (US$50).
There we took Abra for 1 AED each to cross the creek and walked in to Gold Souk. Could not walk much as it was very hot and sweaty but there was an indoor 6 floor gold mall with in souk and spent couple of hours there as it is air conditioned.
Fromt here took back another taxi to airport for about AED25.
Had our dinner in the airport, picked up the left luggage and went in to airport clearing immigration by 10PM.
Our flight is at 2.30AM and we wnet to the 'Quite Lounge' upstaris which has long relaxing chairs.
Emirates also has a free meal for passengers with more than 4 hour layover in the restarent near airport hotel but we did not use it as we already had dinner before immigration.
Trip report: Dubai stop over for few hours (9/1/07 Saturday)
