Trip Photos Selous Ruaha and Mikumi June 2005
Finally got pictures posted from our June 2005 trip to areas in southern Tanzania. Tried to keep them in order of the parks/reserve visited. Forgive me for a few duplicates here and there.
Trust they will bring back memories of trips others have taken. I know I really appreciated photos provided by members of this board.

Wow, great photos. I particularly liked the photo of the giraffe crossing the river and the croc with mouth agape. And all the bird photos -- what size lens did you use and what camera?

Wow. I just realized that I've never seen a giraffe IN the water before as you depict in the photo of one crossing the river. Very interesting.
I'm blown away by all the bird photos. My favorite is the one toward the end of the many bee-eaters in the tree.

Thanks so much Dick I hav been waiting for these! Just skimmer through this morning as I do have to do some work so I will be looking more carefully this weekend. From my glimpse they look great.

Dick, I've been avidly waiting for these photos and now they are here I wish I hadn't looked because exactly what I thought might happen has happened. I want to cancel all current plans and instead go back to Ruaha.
Unfortunately GovernorPhil has a slightly different view (Cape Town is booked for September and we are going!!!) so I'll just have to be patient.
The best photo for me was the cinnamon bread - it reminded me that when we were at Ruaha River Lodge I would empty the bread basket into a napkin and take it all out on the morning drive - it's a long time between breakfast and lunch and Esau, our guide, always enjoyed his share

Lovely... I like the photos from and in the planes and coming into land and having landed and also I'm grateful for the accommodation photos, even vehicles!!... much appreciated.
Of course, love animal pics... wow to that giraffe crossing the river! And what about that greater kudu bull mid-run? And the little gecko on the rock is too adorable! And that one with the big big ele and the ele calf walking towards you--- that must have been amazing! Oooh and the baobob with the hole in it made by eles is pretty unusual isn't it, not to mention that strange little grove of baobobs all together? I like your shot of the underside of an ele foot - what a cool idea!
You also have some fabby bird shots - great lilac-breasted rollers, hoopoe, spotted thick-knee, helmeted guineau fowl, magpie shrike, red-necked spurfowl, green-winged pytilia, maribou stork, von der decken's hornbill, red-billed hornbill, fiscal shrike, ashy starling, white-headed buffalo-weaver, cordon bleu (who knew there was a bird of that name?), white-browed coucal, crowned hornbill, yellow-billed storks, wire-tailed swallow, little bee-eater (one of my very favourite birds), hammerkops, goliath heron, grey-headed kingfisher (yes it is, both times), spur-winged lapwing, pied kingfisher, water thick-knee, white-fronted bee-eater (so close to the first one and wow on the flock shot) and then the waterfowl and house crow right at the end there!!!!
And landscape and flora pics too... Wow to the inside of the mahogany seed pod!!! And I like the shot of the acacia in flower - I have seen it on tv - a riot of yellow - but not visited in th right season to see it in person. And what about that lovely shot where you're heading upriver and there are the tall palms infront of you reflecting into the water?
PS Did you happen to see any kudu?

Thanks to all for the kind words as to the pictures! Most of the really good ones were taken by daughter Beth who has an idea for the unusual (like the pad of the elephant foot). She used a Pentax ZX-M with a 75-300 zoom and was much more diligent in taking her shots. I on the other hand was more impulsive and would often shoot as soon as I saw subject "x" thinking it would run away if I didn't. I used mostly the Olympus digital 740 w/10X zoom. In a few cases we did enlarge pics but as you all know graininess gets to be an issue. On this trip I really appreciated how side-lighting influences pictures. Special thanks to Kavey for the many smilie faces! Kudos to all.

I too like to take pics of strange details - I took a picture (that I adore) of the feet of a baby king penguin and everyone else kept asking when they saw it why I took that!! Same for one I took of a penguin "tail"!

Yes the foot photo is the type of thing that attracts me too! I have a whole collection of up cross zebra stribes. giraffe markings etc there something about that kind of thing that appeals to me!

I wonder if I caused problem with Kodak when we ordered several items of late? Calendars, tote bag and framed prints were neat! Did note a difference in background color between two separate orders of the same calendar though.
