travel consultant needed
Are there any high reputation travel consultants you can recommend to help with a June 2014 trip to southern africa? we are late in getting the flights booked but i know there is still availability. and we have a very good sense of what we want and where we want to go in our travels but we do not want the typical trip or itinerary so it is a bit complicated to reserve via the internet

I used Tanya Kotze, Africa Direct, for a great 3 week trip to South Africa (and a little Botswana) in 2012. She arranged flights, lodges, ground transfers, etc., and all was flawless. Pricing was competitive, and seemed less than it would have been booking it all direct.
This is the company's website, and her email is there.

Can't go wrong with Sun Safaris in Cape Town. Been dealing with them for years. All my trips were handled to perfection.
They co-own a couple of camps in the Kruger private reserves, and also in Botswana (incl 2 houseboats), which makes them super-competitive.

Fortunately, there are many. Do you prefer an agent in your home country or in South Africa?
If you state some of the ideas you have, that also may assist in the recommendation. Sometimes using a Cape Town guide works well and then your safari part can be booked separately. I've done that. All depends on what you'd like to do, and in South Africa there are so many options.
Have a great time. June is nice time to travel, but dress warmly.

Check this out on using an agent that lives near you for South Africa.

In particular, in the above thread, Safari Craig answers your question:

Hi Mandsj,
I got your email and sent you a reply when I got back from Africa last night. Here is the information for the rest of the audience that may be reading this:
These are all competitors of my company in the Bay area that I know and am happy to endorse for a face to face safari planning meeting and booking. This list is in no particular order except for #5
- Mountain Travel Sobek – Ask for Laura Roundy. She is now heading up their Africa department. Their CEO can be reached at [email protected]. I know him personally as he came to visit my company in Minneapolis last month. http://www.mtsobek.com/
- Geographic Expeditions (ask for Starla Estrada or Kate Doty). Both are in Africa this week and I last saw them in Marrakech at a party on Friday night (three days ago) so I am not sure if they are back. http://www.geoex.com/about_us/staff.asp
- Bushtracks - owned by David & Caroline Tett. David's brother Chris owns a full tour operation business based in Vic Falls. David is also in Africa or London at WTM right now. http://www.bushtracks.com/
- Next Adventure & Safari. Owner Kili McGowan 738 Gilman Street, Berkeley CA 94710-1325 USA Tel: 510 526 7027
5. http://yoursafariexpert.com/ - owner, Christine Eichen. I don’t know much about them.
Hope this helps.

I live in the US and have booked 2 custom trips (most recently in October '13) to Southern Africa with Southern Destinations, based in Cape Town. I give the agency my highest recommendation. They have a toll-free phone number. You can read my trip reports by clicking on my name.

How complicated is your itinerary? For the most part the camps you want to book can help with internal flights (including charters) and transfers. It may seem complicated, but it's not. If it's really complicated, then it might not make sense. I used a local safari agent on our first trip, but that was to Botswana and Wilderness Safaris requires an agent. Now I know I can book direct in S Africa or use a S Africa agent, depending on my needs.
