Israel's rainy season is the winter. You will need layers of water resistant clothing. Jerusalem can get weather in the 40's and 50's, but very rarely gets snow. Tel Aviv is slightly warmer, but still gets quite a few rainy days in January. Look for the book "Footloose in Jerusalem" which has a number of wonderful walking tours. Each is very well laid out and takes about a half day to tour a fascinating neighborhood. Because you called it the Holy Lands, I might guess that you are a Christian. If so, you might be interested in the Baptism site on the River Jordan located at Kibbutz Kinneret on the Sea of Galilee (Kinneret in Hebrew). Please E-mail me if you would like some more ideas. Be you a Muslim, Jew, or Christian (or none of the above) the Holy Land is a fascinating place to visit. Tel-Aviv is a great place to visit; be sure to see Caesaria's Ruins. A few of the "must-sees" in Jerusalem are: Via Dolorosa, Al-Aqsa Mosque, Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, and Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Visit Ben Yehuda street; it's a lively spot at night with sidewalk cafes, etc. Don't miss the Dead Sea and Masada just a few minutes away from Jerusalem. In this region of the world (like any other nowdays) any conflict can flare up anytime. If you're not sure if a certain are is safe on a given day, ask an official or your hotel concierge and they can find out for you. Take some warm clothes; Jerusalem especially can get cold. Have a great trip, be a good tipper, be careful, and don't drink the tap water!

A part of a "Holy Land" package should include, in my subjective mind, the city of Nazereth. My wife & I had recently a guided tour there with a local guide and it was fabulous.
While there, try a "baklawa" backery, where you buy heavenly freshly baked cookies by that name.
And yes, tap water IS safe - I am a walking proof to that... ;-)
