The Best Safari ever

I visited Kenya in February 2007. It was my first trip there. I visited the coastal area - Mombasa and it was heaven. Simple paradise. But better than that was the Safari i went on. It was organized by Best Camping Tours (www.kenyabestcampingtour.com). I went to Masai Mara and it was amazing. We got to see all the animals except for a leopard. We saw an elephant inches from our safari van. We got a chance to meet the locals there - the Masai and it was nice. The tour guides were excellent - they knew exactly where to take us to spot the right animals. They all knew english which made it nice. Atleast we could communicate with them. The staff at Best Camping was very helpful and also assisted us after we took the safari. All in all it was a brilliant experience. I enjoyed the safari the best.

I'm sure you feel this way, i know how it is after the first safari. but on second thought wouldn't you change the headline ?
read some : NEW EAST AFRICA Trip Report Index http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...ext=+NEW+index

"We got to see all the animals except..."

I really do not know that many people that would take a trip (of any kind) and immediately look for a travel forum to post about the pleasure of their trip.

Now, if the trip was a "trip from hell", then that is a different story.

I hope aby is right.

Hey guys!!

The humidity was not so bad. Especially since i live in the Middle East and summer here is horror - we get 100% humidity! Compared to that it was nothing. As for you guys thinking its advertising - well nah! I was just sharing the joys of my trip. As to people just sharing a trip from hell - i beg to differ. It doesn't always have to be about a bad thing does it??? I loved Kenya and wanted people to know about it and go and check it out. I am sorry you only like reading about trips from hell!!! As far as the animals are concerened we did get to see them all - The big five!!! Regardeless I enjoyed my trip!!

Cheers

travellerti,

I enjoyed your post. I also enjoy meeting locals when I travel and its good to know of any company that you had a good experience with. You will be able to help other people who are seeking help going to Mombasa...you've been there and can share the good and bad and offer tips. How exciting to see an elephant so close! Will you be returning for another safari? Where did you stay in the Mara?

For me, I can't do Mombasa because I take medication which ovrheats me. But there are others, like you, that this would not bother. My family lives in a very hot and humid area in the South in USA. It would not bother them as they are use to this climate. They would be the type wanting to visit Mombasa and the coast activies and include a safari as well.

We are all so different. To each his own. It sounded like your trip was perfect for you!!

I would not stop visiting here or other travel forums because you may truly be able to help a first time tourist regardng Mombasa. You may want to let them know about the temperature so if they aren't use to it, they could be advised.

Congrats on your first safari, and having found a nice company!! Much better than hearing a disaster. I haven't even been on my first yet so I am excited for you, share your happiness.
Peace to you,
Lisa

PS
still i hope u canunderstand my remark about the animals
i have an opinion about the "big 5" concept (enough to open a new theread).
it is of no significance to me (but if it is for u - u must come again as u counted only 4 of them)

Yeah, that would be nice. Each new trip better than the last one. Each new trip the "best", then I could have 30 best safaris. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Hello!
Lisa thank you for your positive response. Yes the Mara was lovely - we were staying at a camp in the Talek area. As for Mombasa we were staying at Southern Palms. I really did enjoy the Mara and we got to see a small elephant family (Mum, dad and baby) it was so cute as the baby was curious and kept coming toward our van and the dad would run back and pull it back with his trunk. Such a cute scene!!

I do not know when i will be taking my next trip. But hope it will be soon. It is difficult to get time off work

When are you planning your trip? I hear June July is an ideal time since its winter there. Let me know... Maybe if your interested I can put you into contact with the guy who organized my safari....

Aby - apology accepted! But am curious to know why you not a fan of the Big Five. Do you live in Kenya? See for me - am just used to seeing these animals on discovery and stuff - so seeing them up close and personal was amazing!!

Thank you for the good wishes. And yes do hope to have more interesting trips. And hope all the trips you guys go on are fab as well..

Take care
Cheers
