Tanzania Safari and Zanzibar
Hi there,
I am planning a trip with my husband to Tanzania from the 24th of August to the 9th of September.
We want to go on Safari to the Serengeti/ ngorongoro national parks for 3/4 days and then go to Zanzibar.
It's our first time to Africa and will really appreciate your advice.
Which will be the best airport to arrive? Kilimanjaro?
Any suggestions which tour can we hire? We don't want any luxury/expensive trip. I have heard that booking with a tour operator in Africa will be cheaper than booking from the UK, any suggestions for tour operators overthere and costs? Usually from where does the tour operators pick you up? and how long will take from kilimanjaro area to the serengeti?
Which is the best transport to go from Serengeti to Zanzibar? how long will take and how much does it could cost?
How much can I expect to pay for a hotel in Zanzibar?
The flight back to the Uk will be better to take it from zanzibar airport or from Dar es Saalam?

I am surprised you want to do a Safari for only 3-4 days and then go to Zanzibar for the next 15 days!!

To the OP, 3-4/days can only get you to the Serengeti if you fly to/from; otherwise it's a full day drive each way. With so short time, you can visit Tarangire and Ngorongoro only.
Only if you take a few days from a Zanzibar beach holiday will you be able to include the Serengeti which deserves a minimum of 3/nts.
Arrival for these parks would be at Kilimanjaro/JRO from where your tour operator will meet/greet and transfer you to Arusha; next day commence safari. If then to Zanzibar, best is by air* from Arusha/ARK (or if you make it to the Serenngeti from here via Arusha) to Zanzibar.
*by road it's a 10/hr drive to Dar-es-Salaam/DAR for a 2/hr ferry or short 15/min flight.
As Zanzibar is an international airport, your homebound can be from here or a short flight DAR to the UK. British Air has a flight from DAR, not daily, though very early morning if you wish to fly them direct to London.

Ines, I think you have things backwards. 4 days on Zanzibar is more than enough! The rest of your time should be spent on safari. At this late date, however, you may find availability a problem, even on Zanzibar at places like Pongwe Beach Hotel, which is my favorite. As Sandi notes, you'd fly into Kilimanjaro (JRO) for the safari portion of your trip. There are flights to Zanzibar (ZNZ) from either the domestic Arusha airport or from JRO. While it may be less expensive to book directly, you'd need some knowledge of where you want to go, etc. to do that. Using a safari planner may be your best bet if this is your first trip to Tanzania. If you're in the UK, you might check with Africa Travel Resource. I think they reserve blocks of accommodations and might have availability.

Hi, I just noticed your question about possible tours in Tanzania. I'd like to recommend the independent guide we booked three years ago when we travelled there (my husband, I, a couple of friends and our three kids). His name is Chacha Mokeret Magori. We went to Manyara, lake Eyasi, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Lake Natron, Tarangire... unforgettable experience. We saw so many animals, including the big five. Chacha has the entire camping equipment, Land Cruiser vehicles, and service of a cook! He organizes private safaris in all of Tanzania (not only the northern parks) and also in Kenya.
