Tanzania January 2011
I meant to post this many months ago to potentially help those going in 2012 and to acknowledge and thank those who helped me so much with my planning, but these forums wouldn't accept my copy/paste report so have blogged it instead
http://scratchmap.blogspot.com/
Hope it helps someone and many thanks to all those I learnt so much from before my trip.
Best wishes
Margaret

Great report/blog.
What caught my attention though 'the Chinese built the road from Tarangire past Manyara to Ngorongoro' - sorry, but it was built/completed by the Japanese '99. We traveled on it (late-'98) when it was still only the underbelly of the soon to be new road. This was built for the Japanese Prince who was soon to be visiting Tanzania and didn't want to ride on the oft poor roads, which those of us who have been, know quite well.
On my last ride across this road I actually saw a rather small pothole right before or after Manyara and was shocked! Otherwise, must say they did a great job!
The Chinese, however, have in these past few years been building/repairing roads most everywhere in Tanzania and Kenya.
