Taking Ethiopian vs. Kenyan Airline from London to Rwanda

Hi I am planning a trip from London to Rwanda. I will be traveling alone and a bit concerned about general safety being this is my first time.

I am conflicted between taking Ethiopian Airlines (Layover in Addis Ababa) vs. Kenya Airways (Layover in Nairob). In your opinion which is better in terms of:

-Service/food inflight on economy class
-Layover Locations (and if stuck with an overnight delay which airline gives free hotel rooms)
-General Delays (in terms of length)

Thanks for your help in advance!

I don't have a basis for comparision as I've never travelled on Ethiopian Airlines, but we took Kenya Airways to Rwanda from London and thought they were great. We had an unfortunate delay on our return due to fog at Heathrow that had us diverted to Manchester and we missed our connection, but that wasn't the airlines fault.

The connection at Jomo Kenyatta Airport was quick and I thought the food was fine and they have the personal video screens which helps pass the time quickly.

Does anyone have any experience with Ethiopian Airline to share? I promised my co-worker that she would get answers here!

I only used Ethiopian Air for domestic flights, and they were horrid, but I would hope their international flights would be a different story. I seem to recall a trip report on here from someone flying from DC to Addis on Ethiopian who also had a very bad experience, but I cannot recall who the poster was.

yes,i have flown them a few times. They are usually reliable but DEFINITELY fly kenyan unless there is a huge price difference.

Kenyan are by far the better airline

here's a thread on flyertalk that asks the same question, but the answers are vague:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/afric...kenya-air.html

They aren't listed on this list of airlines not allowed to fly into Europe:

http://ec.europa.eu/transport/air-ban/pdf/list_en.pdf
