South African Airways - Chicago To JNB and JFK to JNB (Nonstop)

Not sure if this has been reported or not yet, but I think the below is great news:

South African Airways has announced new daily non-stop service from New York’s JFK International Airport to Johannesburg, South Africa, effective May 8, 2007. With a flight time of just 15 hours and 32 minutes, the new non-stop flight shaves more than 2 1/2 hours from SAA’s previous flight time and eliminates the route’s stop in Dakar, Senegal.

The airline also announced new service from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Johannesburg, South Africa beginning May 2007. The flight will make a short stop in Dakar, Senegal. Both flights will feature the airline’s flagship aircraft, the Airbus 340-300.

Is good news, more non-stop flights to JNB. That's the way I want to fly next Sepetmber, USA to JNB, no routing via EU.
BTW, Rocco, was just wondering about you, havn't heard much from you (or Julian) or have I just not being reading the right posts?
regards - tom
ps - sent you a little package today, hope you find it entertaining.

Hi Tom,

While my first passion is being a couch potato, eating pizza and other bad food and spending all my free time on Fodors, unfortunately I have been spending most of my free time exercising lately!

I actually did a 10K (6.2 mile) race on my first Saturday back followed by a 15K (9.3 mile) race the very next day. Unfortunately, I did not win...had I just been about 5 minutes per mile faster I may have had a chance.

I am starting to get my Botswana/South Africa photos together and hopefully over the holidays I will have a chance to get my trip report up on the board. It was such a fantastic safari and I enjoyed every minute of it. Just trying to figure out when I am going next...more than likely I will go in early May to Zimbabwe...then in September, at long last, it will be a return to Zambia to spend a couple weeks in Kafue with Hari and Gaurang ("Africa&quot and that should be a blast.

So, lately I have just checked the board periodically but have not had much chance to contribute...I figure that Julian has been very busy, as well.

Thanks for the package...I will keep my eyes open for it.

Traveled to SA last year via SAA and plan to return in June. Have not heard of flights out of O'Hare and would be intrested in finding a source for booking that flight myself and save money as I can drive from Tulsa to Chicago eliminating domestic flight expense. I plan to make this trip every year and would appreciate any advice on how to do this using South African Airways 747 if possible in the most affordable fashion of course! Thanks for any suggestions.

My guess, for flight out of ORD is because SAA is now a United partner that hubs in ORD.

Call SAA or UA to book flight out of ORD.
