South Africa trip advices

hi everyone,
in February 2015 I plan to travel to South Africa. I probably only have 2-3 weeks time. I plan to fly to Capetown, stay there for a few days and then travel around.
Actually I don't know much about attractions or what to see. I heard about the Garden Route which should be worth to see. Do you guys have any tips for me, what to do? What's best to do at this time of the year?
I guess I have to rent a car as far as I'm informed. If you have a suggestion for a route it doesn't have to end in Cape Town (maybe Port Elizabeth).
thanks in advance

South Africa has a lot of amazing attractions for the tourists. Make sure you don't miss the Blyde River Canyon, the Table Mountain, the Kruger National Park (one of the largest and most beautiful game reserves in the world) and the Sun City Resort (this one can be quite expensive, so it depends on your budget if you want to see it or not). Enjoy!

hi Lucy,
thank you for all the tips, sounds really good I think I have to google the places you suggest to see if they are not too far apart from each other. I think it might be difficult to do everything since Kruger National Park is far in north.

Just curious, you are going there on business of some kind? You're not going to SA just because you've heard it is a great place to visit?

regards - tom

We have been there 5 times & you should be able to do all of Capetown area, Cape Peninsula tour around Hout Bay, Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Gardens, WINE country! You should do at least 1 private game reserve & if you want the most for your money, book at one of the Sabi Sands reserves. You will see the most leopard, big cats & big five in the highest concentration! The private game reserves only alow 3 vehicles at a sighting so much better than Krueger.

You can also hire excellent private guides to drive you around , feelsafe & get a lot more historical info- This is what we always do-If you go to Pt Elizabeth you can go to Addo Elephant reserve also-

If you have only 2 weeks, I would stay in the Cape Town area for one week and then Kruger or Sabi (if you have the budget) for another week. If you have a third week you could add the Garden Route, it is a great time of year for it. I have no idea why someone would suggest Sun City for a first time visit, I have lived here 10 months and still haven't gone. I just don't see the interest when there are so many other great things to do.

thank you all for your feedback and opinions!!

@Tom na, not for business, but my sister is currently working in SA and I'll take the opportunity to visit her, but probably she won't have that much time off, so I'm looking for places to go and things to do

It would be helpful to know what kinds of things you enjoy doing?

We have visited South Africa several times, visiting with friends most of the time and doing some sightseeing as well. Highly recommend going to a game reserve! We were able to get to Medikwe and Pilanesberg. Would love to go to Kruger sometime.

Capetown is also a wonderful area to visit. Lots to see and do. If you want to get to Kruger (or Sabi Sands reserve), you can always catch a flight to Johannesburg.

Enjoy!

I think 4 days in Cape Town to see Table Mountain, Hout Bay, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Robben Island, a day in wine lands. I think 2-3 days at the Sodwana Bay area/St Lucia Wetlands is great. This coastal area in the Kwazulu-natal area is a world heritage site and we loved it. Then I would either go to Phinda Private Game Reserve which is not that far away from St Lucia Wetlands by car or I would fly to Sabi Sands Private Game REserve for the balance of the trip. We did a trip very similar and I planned one for some friends very much like this one. Let me know if you want more of the itinerary details. My email is on my profile. Enjoy. Such a great journey!
