South Africa honeymoon help
Hello out there!
I was wondering if anyone could help my fiancee and I with the following rough itinerary for about 12 days late Nov/early Dec. We'd like to do Cape Town, safari, and a nice warm beach. So we were planning to fly into JoBurg and immediately on to Cape Town (about 5 days there), and then flying from Cape Town to Durban and spending our remaining time doing a safari and finishing up on some stereotypical honeymoon beach, and then flying from Durban to JoBurg and home. So...
Is this doable, or would it involve too much traveling around for a honeymoon?
We wanted to do a beach closer to Cape Town, but the weather looks too cold this time of year for proper relaxing on a beach. Is this correct? If we beach up by Durban, could someone recommend a nice beach?
And any advice would be much appreciated. Our budget's around $10K for everything, but we realize we may have to go over that.
Thanks so much!

Congratulations!
Nov/Dec is summer - I think the beaches near Cape Town would be beautiful. But I've only been in September, and it was not beach weather.
You could do Cape Town, then safari at Phinda or Thanda, Thula Thula, Mkuze or the Zululand Rhino Reserve, then beach at Rocktail, which is nearby. Or, if the beach is good near Cape Town, you could do cape town and then a safari in the private game reserves around Kruger. Try to stay at least 3 nights on safari. Both options are doable and nice for a honeymoon. Transfers and flights are easy, too. I could definitely do either for under 10K - but I don't stay in the fancy places like Phinda (see options above).

Personally would get a great SAA Safari Package
travelzoo.com amazing values with air 5 star lodging
cheaper usually than RT air alone.
Maybe hook on a beach around Durban or farther North better
.beachandbush.co.za
Might also take some private bids on Zicasso.com but more $$$
Congrats!

Hello Blackrooster,
Congratulations on your engagement. I think a combination of CT, Safari and Durban is fantastic and for 12 days - I think you have enough time to get from A to B without feeling too rushed.
Nov/Dec is a fantastic time to visit CT, it is our summer and the days can be hot, but remember the sea is freezing here - year round - so if you are wanting to swim in the sea - I would definitely recommend that you consider going to Durban where the sea is much warmer.
I thought you might find this discussion helpful to your own plans: http://www.mysafari.com/travel-forum...-honeymoon/92/
Good luck, hope you have a phenomenal trip.

Hi Blackrooster,
There is always plenty to do in Cape Town and end of November early December is the start of summer. So you will have plenty to occupy your days with while you are in Cape Town and if you get great weather then you can also head to the beach.
Natal is a good option for a combination of beach and safari. The Indian Ocean is also a lot warmer than Cape Town's Atlantic ocean - something to keep in mind if you love swimming! Phinda and Thanda are super safari options and both have a choice of romantic lodges and the game viewing is excellent. I think Thonga Beach Lodge on the northern Natal coast is a stunning option for honeymooners - make sure you get a chalet with a sea view! But check it out too.
Good Luck with your planning, South Africa is an awesome country!

I would like to point out early December Cape Town, the Garden Route & national parks Kruger/Addo (not sure about Durban) is flooded by holiday makers from Jo'burg, it is a bit of a traffic nightmare, a simple 5 minute journey can take ½hr ! Perhaps bring your dates forward a couple of days & avoid early December.
