South Africa

Will be traveling in South Africa for the first 3 weeks of August and looking for some input.

We will be starting in Capetown and want to explore the area for week or so, including penguins, shark diving, table top mountain, waterfront, cape of good hope. Then we want to do go wine tasting in wine country followed by the garden route. Then to Durban for a few days and ending a day or two in Johannesburg before we fly out. We do not want to do a safari as we are coming from a safari in East Africa. Would love recommendations on all those areas, including what to do around Capetown, which neighborhood to stay in, and which wineries to try and stops on the garden route.

Also, would it be feasible to rent a car and drive Capetown, wine country, garden route, and all the way to Durban? Are there recommended deals on car rentals and are there roads good this time of year?

Thank you!
