I have finally found some time to sort through some of my images from my latest safari. I did find myself teaching more than actually taking photographs, at the expense of missing a few shots. Here are a few wildlife images from January 22 - February 12:

and here is a link to a portrait shoot that I had arranged of the Maasai. I had set up some time to have both women and men present, and ready to get to work. We met underneath a very large baobab tree, and used simple diffusers and reflectors to modify the harsh midday light.

Very nice presentation Andy,lot of different colors,lights and animals in a stylish thumbnail page.

I like all of them,i could mention the lion against that stormy sky,the cheetah looking if the rain is going to stop,the pannings,the last leopard coming down the tree or the second jackal shot, but maybe the 4 giraffes is the one i would pick,very nice contrast,color and very attractive the disposition of the subjects.

Itīs always a pleasure to look at a nice african gallery.

Hi Andy,
Once more you have given us a lesson on how to look at the African landscape. My favorites are the Cheetah in the grass. The Maasai in black and white are also facinating. Nice job, thanks, I'm envious.

Andy, wonderful shots! I try to envision these myself but they don't come naturally. I have to really think about composition unlike my son to whom it just comes naturally. It seems so easy just to click away...but its not and your shots show the difference. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent, Andy. I love the sense of space in many of your photos. Tight shots are great, but subjects don't have to fill the frame all the time: animals in their environment <i>are</i> the subject.

I found it difficult to choose a favourite. Broadly, I'd go along with Paco's choices.

As many of you know, I spend quite a bit of time each year out on safari taking photographs. I have decided to start branching out into other areas, such as digital high definition video. I am doing research on different HD cameras right now, and some of the Canon HD cameras have caught my eye. I always look forward to new challenges!

On a similar topic, and one that many wildlife photographers are interested in, I had a chance to shoot with the new Canon EOS 1DMkIII at PMA a few weeks ago. I anticipate that this camera will really fit the bill for many of us, and some of the features will be very nice improvements over past 1 series cameras. I am especially interested in the new battery design (longer battery life), lighter weight (1/2 pound lighter), larger rear LCD, repositioned buttons, 14-bit processing, and revamped autofocus system. All great things. I also look forward to the 1DsMkII replacement, so I can have a similar button and menu layout on both of my cameras.

Another vote(s) for the cheetah checking out the rain and the space you give the animals.... I especially like the jackal too... and of course the sparring wildebeests.... In my books I think this lesson is under the chapters LIGHT and COMPOSITION, but I'm rarely right about these things.

I always enjoy seeing your images, Andy. My favorite has to be the lion in the green grass with nothing other than the dark sky behind it. Also, the lioness on the rock. And the cheetah on the dead tree. Okay, maybe I don't have a favorite! Beautiful images.
