Single American female in Saudi Arabia

Hello, I will be traveling to Kenya in January, but have a 20-hour layover in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I will be traveling solo, but want to explore the city for as long as possible. Will this be possible, unaccompanied? I will be wearing a full black abaya while there...is a headscarf also necessary? I would love any feedback you can give. Thank you!
