Short Last minute Kenya safari with group

Any suggestions on how to spend three days on my own in Nairobi next week. Due to unforseen circumstances, I have three days before my husband and children join me for our Tanzania/Zanzibar safari. I would like to go on short safari with a group to Samburu and Lake Nakuru. Any recommendations for a good tour operator who has scheduled departures?

You can try Kennedy at Waymark Safaris

[email protected]

He has tours to both Samburu and Lake Nakuru, but I don't know if he can accomodate something like that next week. It would be worth giving him a try though!

If you are planning a road safari, you will be looking at 8 hours each way, or more to Samburu. Nakuru is 3 hours. As LydnaS said, it may be difficult at short notice to join another group. Also try this email address: [email protected]

I would try Let's Go, Gamewatchers, and Eastern & Southern (well actually I wouldn't hold out that much hope for Eastern & Southern but Serah would be upset if I didn't try). I would also try others, but I would get their names from atravelynn, who is organised enough to keep a list of them on hand.

Keep in mind that some companies will offer want to fly you in somwhere, which sounds fine but means that the "group" you are with may not recognise you as a member - I assume the group wish is for the company?

I think Eastern & Southern normally does private safaris so probably won't have a group to put you with, but you can try.

Gametrackers is another you can try that may be able to put you with a group.

The drive to Samburu from Nairobi is more like 5.5 to 6 hours. It's a decent road (for Kenyan standards) most of the way until you get to Isiolo. Past Isiolo to the reserve gates it's a bumpy, rutted ride but that's only the final hour or so.

If you can't find a group, you might consider flying. You'll go on game drives with other guests in the lodge/camp vehicles so you won't be completely alone.

Good luck!
