Very nice, Paco. Unusual animals, really well-done compositions. Those were a pleasure to look at, thanks for sharing them.

Paco, I forgot to ask, were you using the Nikon 200-400/4VR lens for these? That was my guess looking at the EXIF and seeing the image quality.

You chose some beauties to share. I detected an empahsis on hippos in the sunset, snakes and frogs. That is the most wild looking wildcat I have seen. They always seem to look so domestic, which is a little disappointing.

All were great. Thanks.

Very nice, Paco. Love 'em!

Had to laugh at the African wild cat, though. We looked at each other, turned around and looked at our own moggie here, and except for the colour, there was the same "pissed off" look on both of them.

For those of you who use the pbase site ...... is it easy to use and upload photos? The quality seems way superior compared to the kodakgallery ....... i should give it a shot!

Hari,
PBase is very easy to use. Basically, you create a gallery, give it a name and a description, and then upload pictures through a web browser interface. You can upload multiple pictures by just creating a ZIP file with all of them in there. Then you can add titles or keywords, either to each picture individually, to all of them, or to specific ones by checking boxes on the main editing screen. The EXIF information is displayed automatically if you elect to display it.

I believe you can create a PBase trial account for free, which would allow you to create some pages and upload a few pictures. So if you'd like to try it out, you can do so without obligating yourself.

If you do subscribe, it costs $23 per year for 400MB of storage space. One thing to bear in mind is that PBase does not do prints, mugs, calendars, or other things like that. But the cool thing is that there are many very talented photographers on PBase, and when your pages are created, they are indexed and can be found on Google. (try searching for "Amahoro Group" on Google and my pictures are the 1st search result). I think that is a cool benefit.

If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to answer them, but I would encourage you to try PBase out by just creating a free trial account.

you are right Chris,i use the nikon 200-400 f4 VR for this trip for the first time.

Lynn,no matter what , the cat looks domestic to me,actually i dont have cat, but i understand John´s comment about his look.

Hari,Chris is right about Pbase, you can try for free and subscribe if you want.
Very easy to use.

Hari, one thing that will affect how pictures look on the screen is the background color. Most people seem to prefer a black background -- PBase lets you set it to whatever you want, but black seems to be the majority choice.

Paco -- that 200-400VR is a super lens, and your pictures show that you made excellent use of it.

Great pictures!

I would not wish to put a downer on these but I can see no lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, sable, roan or eland. Were any of these seen?

Regarding Pbase it has one fault and that is that you can copy the pictures. It is therefore necessary to put a watermark on them.

Hari, I just started using Pbase earlier this month and agree with Chris and Paco that it's easy to use, but it won't make your photos look any better (or at least mine look the same on Pbase as on my personal site). I think the smaller size of the Kodak Gallery images is a hindrance though (you can show up to 800 pixels/side with Pbase).

Check that you are either shooting in sRGB space or if you are shooting with AdobeRGB working space that you convert to sRGB before you upload to the site. If you don't the saturated colors will flatten out (I can explain this better if you wish -- I have an example posted somewhere -- but just use sRGB for web images to fix it).

I saw some cheetah photos you took in very sweet light that looked fine, so maybe the images you are unhappy with were taken in hotter light?

Anyway, Pbase is easy to use so by all means take advantage of the 30 day free trial to see if you like it.

<b>Regarding Pbase it has one fault and that is that you can copy the pictures.</b>

You can copy web images from ANYWHERE if you can see them on your screen, if you don't believe me just point me to an image you think is uncopyable and in 30 seconds I'll email a copy back to you.

I think you mean Pbase doesn't automatically disable right-click copying but you can add that yourself with a bit of html code (they tell you how to do it). But right-click disable just keeps you from right-click copying, you can still capture it with a screen grab and trim off the excess in any photo editor in about 10 seconds.

Hi Bill,

I think the smaller sizes of the kodak images are more the problem! The pbase in general, i feel is a better gallery from what i have seen.

RE the cheetah pics from last year -i was happy with those. I will repost them on pbase.

2007 was a disappointing cheetah year for me

Cheers

&quot;You can copy web images from ANYWHERE if you can see them on your screen&quot;

Not quite correct. There are special plug-ins available that disable any copy, save, or screen capture of your web browser content.

I encountered this for the first time about 10 years ago on the original Terraserver website (an early Google Earth precursor).

One of such protection solutions is CopySafe (www.copysafe.net).

Interesting ... can you give a URL for a site that uses this? I'd like to see if I can break it

Hard to see how they can disable 'print screen' since that's not part of the browser but I'd like to look at it and see what they do.
