See you later! Off to Serian.

Hi! Since I am going on a business visit to Dubai - I am combining that with a short safari to the Masai Mara. Will be at Serian ........ I have always been keen on going there and now, finally I'm going to get there.

Will keep you posted on return.

Too short this trip - Just 5 nights on safari, but, I don't have work commitments for immediately when I get home!

Head out in a few hours.

Rgds
Hari

Have a great time Hari. I look forward to your comments on Serian, especially as it is one of the camps we are considering for our trip to the Masai Mara.

Enjoy your short safari Hari... I look forward to your thoughts on Serian. Its top of my list of Mara camps to visit... I like the idea of a private vehicle.

Serian is a masterpiece, have a GREAT time. Send my regards to Alex, I stayed there with my father in law for 2 nights in September, then he set up a fly camp for us on the south bank of the Mara inside the park for another 2 nights. My first 4 nights in Africa. Mind blowing.
In particular, if possible, please ask about our guides. The guide was Edwin, whose Masai name is Centau, and our driver was Joseph. We became very close with them in our 4 nights together. A month after I got home I sent them photos of themselves and all kinds of other things from the states care of the camp, but I never heard back from anybody...just wondering if they received the stuff, and, more importantly, if they are ok.....thanks

Hari, I just can't wait for you to post about your experience at Serian (too impatient and too excited), so I am going to hijack your thread for a moment and ask Jenack, toontowndoc and any others who have stayed at Serian some questions.

1) I have read each party has its own vehicle. Does this mean we can stay out all day with a picnic lunch if we like?

2) It looks to me that Serian is in the Greater Mara, just outside the actual Masai Mara. Is this correct? Can vehicles from Serian transverse into the Masai Mara?

Have a wonderful time Hari. Five days might short, but it's still five days on safari! I am so jealous you can combine a safari with a business trip. Along with Leely2 and the others, I'm wishing you great cheetah luck!

I am not Hari, but the answer is YES!

Private vehicle for you and you can go where you want and for as long as you like!

That fireplace in the main camp is great!

I am not shy to say that Serian is one of my favorite camps and I have seen many!

Hari, the Loita herds are near Serian at this time!

My friend David Naurori (a local Masai guide) is visiting with me now and he tells me there are many wildebeests between his village (near Musiara Gate) and Serian.

So you will see a lot!

I am heading to the Western Serengeti this Tuesday to catch the Serengeti herds!

Hello all,

Greetings from Dubai.

Thank you all for the well wishes and will pass on your greetings to serian........ will be gameviewing from wednesday. So, have one more full day of work ahead of me before I can head off on safari.

Eben - thanks for the Loita update ....... I have been intrigued by serian for a long time now, and certainly the flexibility of the private vehicle is a huge tipping point towards my decision.

Rgds
Hari

Georgie,

1)Yes....you can stay out all day, and we did stay out all day. Had breakfast and lunch out. You can do whatever you want.

2)The camp is way above the actual Masai Mara, up in the hills, and a difficult travel as the roads are not really roads. You can go down into the park, but it would be at least an hour trip down, maybe more. It is certainly do-able, and most guests do it.I don't know how long you are staying or if you are going to be in other camps. We stayed around the camp for 2 nights, and there was PLENTY of all kinds of animals around the camp, and then we went down to the fly camp inside the park for 2 nights. If you can handle the primitive nature of the fly camp, it was the absolute best 2 nights we had in Africa, except for the 4 nights we spent fly camping in Ruaha. The fly camping experience was simply indescribable.

Have a great time -- to me, the Masai Mara/Serengeti is, by far, the best wildlife viewing area on Africa. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Hari, you’d better hurry up with a report so that it’s finished before I leave.
