safety

I will be doing a gorilla trek in October and was wondering what type of security there is while out on the trek. I understand that its proximity to DRC and the presence of various rebel groups increase the potential for problems. I know things have been quiet lately however is there a military presence obvious while out trekking? Military escorts given?
Thanks
