My husband wants to go on safari for his 50th birthday. We can go 3rd and 4th week of April. Any suggestions re which countries are best to visit at this time of the year? I'd also like to add a few days beachside if possible. My husband has always been fascinated by Zanzibar. We have around 12 days max., flying in from Europe. Thanks, Suzanne

12 Days won't get you to Mauritius.
You can certainly visit Tanzania and catch the migration in the Ndutu area or Southeast Serengeti.
Know though April is the "long" rain season, but no guarantee of wet, nor daily or all day long. But rates are at lowest with fewer visitors... all is green and beautiful.
On Zanzibar, some properties do close during April, so verify which open.
Good luck!
You could arrive in Durban South Africa. Durban has great beaches and is a vibrant modern city.
From Durban their are several great game preserves within a days drive. You could spend five or six days on safari in various preserves and then three or four days on the beach. This would leave you a couple of days to fly to Livingston, Zambia where you could experience Victoria Falls. Another option would be a couple of days in Zululand, also close to Durban.
Acouple of parks close to Durban:
Hluhluwe Umfolozi National Park
Pongola Game preserve
Kwazulu is the only Province in South Africa that has big game country and beach, but beach is untouched, unspoilt, pristine, beautiful beaches in the midst of a world heritage site. For a touch of luxury look at Thanda or Phinda http://www.andbeyondafrica.com/luxury_safari/south_africa/phinda_private_game_reserve/and_beyond_phinda_private_game_reserve/travel_packages or Thula Thula. For the beach part of the holiday Rocktail or Thonga or Kosi Forest Lodge http://www.isibindiafrica.co.za/kfl/index.htm or Makakatana bay lodgehttp://www.makakatana.co.za/ Most of the game lodges will take you for day trips to the pristine beaches of Cape Vidal, ST Lucia Estuary cruises and community tours, if you want something more than just game viewing during your stay.
