Rwanda Questions--Visas, etc.

We will be four adults traveling to Rwanda in Feb. 2016. All US citizens. We seem to be able to get visa on arrival for $30. The visa on arrival is fairly new, I believe. Has anyone done this? I want to compare vs. getting the visa in advance. Are there advantages to one or the other? Is it a fairly quick process?

I'm also confused about tipping. I have read about the recommended tips to the gorilla guides, trackers and porters, but we will also have a driver/guide. The lodge is providing a vehicle and driver for transport from Kigali to the lodge, to and from the National Park (for two gorilla treks and one monkey trek), and transfer back to Kigali. It isn't quite the same as the safari driver/guide we will have in Tanzania, in that he/she won't be with us all day, it doesn't seem. Any idea what the proper tipping amounts would be? And US dollars ok or must we get Rwandan francs?
